Conference description This conference agenda has been designed for physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals involved in the screening, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship of breast cancer. It is beneficial for public health officials, administrators, and other professionals in administrative management to attend. Topics presented in this conference will enhance the participants information base, improve clinical capabilities, and increase therapeutic options. Conference Objectives Review the current screening guidelines for breast cancer. Identify and discuss new breast imaging technologies that may be useful in high risk patients and patients with dense breast tissue. List the elements in a young breast cancer patient s history that may indicate a hereditary component to the cancer. Identify breast cancer predisposition genes in addition to BRCA. Identify the types of patients who get breast cancer at a young age. Discuss the management of breast carcinoma in pregnancy and the prognosis, diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Identify and discuss chemotherapeutic regimens with safety data in pregnancy. Discuss what causes intimacy/sex problems with cancer patients. Discuss the effects of breast cancer therapies on fertility potential of young females. Identify and discuss fertility preservation options for females of reproductive age with breast cancer. Identify the barriers to fertility preservation. Describe how the broad array of psychosocial services needed by cancer patients is provided and what barriers exist to accessing such care. Discuss surgical approaches to treatment of breast cancer. Acknowledgements This conference will be supported through independent educational grants.
