APPENDIX 1 --- Official Catalogue / Website For each College College of New Jersey ance Course Description - FINANCE (FIN) FIN 201/Fundamental ancial Methods.5 course unit (every semester) Prerequisites: ECO 101 or 102, and STA 215 (or equivalent) The basic tools and methods of financial analysis and decision making are introduced to all business majors. A general study of financial management to include time value of money, measurement of risk and return, capital structure, and capital budgeting. All subsequent courses in finance build upon this base, and the course serves as a prerequisite to all additional courses in the finance program. FIN 202/Introduction to ance for Non-Business Students 1 course unit (every semester) Prerequisite: STA 215 or equivalent course in statistics A survey course in finance for non-business majors. Topics include time value of money, valuation and returns, cost of capital, and capital budgeting. The elements of accounting and economics necessary for the comprehension of financial concepts and analysis are also covered. This course may not be taken by majors from the School of Business. FIN 310/Introduction to Investments and ancial Analysis 1 course unit (every semester) Prerequisite: FIN 201 The fundamentals of investing in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and other marketable securities. Securities markets, mechanics of trading, analytical techniques, risk management, diversification, and valuation of assets are included. FIN 320/Working Capital Management 1 course unit (every semester) Prerequisite: FIN 201 Management of short-term assets and liabilities, financial statement analysis, planning, budgeting, and bankruptcy. FIN 410/Portfolio Management and Derivative Securities 1 course unit (fall) Prerequisite: FIN 310 Continuation of FIN 310 with emphasis on security valuation under uncertainty, efficient financial markets, options, commodity and financial futures, portfolio construction, and planning. FIN 430/Business Valuation 1 course unit (fall) Prerequisite: FIN 201 Valuation of closely held corporations using discounted cash flow and comparative company methods. Analysis of financial statements and adjustments to balance sheets and income statements. Coverage also includes the valuation of family limited partnerships and intangible assets. School of Business--Course Descriptions-9 FIN 495/Senior Thesis in ance 1 course unit (every semester) Prerequisites: Senior standing, finance specialization, FIN310, FIN 320, and FIN 330 Independent research under faculty supervision. Topic agreed upon by student and sponsoring faculty member. This course is the capstone writing course for finance. The student will complete a formal, bound research paper. INTERDISCIPLINARY BUSINESS (BUS) BUS 100/Freshmen Business Colloquium 0 course unit (fall) An introductory course for all entering business students that examines how marketing, accounting, management, finance, and economics contribute to the functioning of a business in today s global marketplace. Course sessions will be delivered primarily by senior business professionals. Freshmen Business Colloquium is required for all entering business students. 2

BUS 200/Legal and Regulatory Environment of Business 1 course unit (every semester) An examination of the legal environment of business, particularly as it relates to the competing interests of a business s various stakeholders. Current events, the lawmaking process, public policy issues, business ethics, and the role and functioning of the corporation are the major foci of this course. This is a sophomore-level School of Business writing course. BUS 300/Law for Business 1 course unit (occasionally) Prerequisite: BUS 200 The purpose of this course is to study several types of law with which business people must work on a daily basis. Students learn contract, sales, negotiable instruments and commercial paper, bankruptcy and secured transactions law and see how it applies in today s world. Current events will be a major part of this class. BUS 325/Employment Law 1 course unit (spring) Prerequisite: BUS 200 A study of the various federal and state laws and regulations affecting employment relationships in a rapidly changing economy. Equal opportunity, age discrimination, and disability discrimination are points of focus. BUS 360/International Business Law 1 course unit (occasionally) An introduction to the legal issues involved in international trade and finance, focusing on the effective management of legal risk. This course will provide students with a basic understanding of international business law concepts, such as corporate, employment and contract law principles. Degree in ance 3320 Preparation and Analysis of ancial Statements 3 A study of the techniques applied in preparing, analyzing and interpreting the financial statements of industrial and commercial business enterprises. Published statements of business concerns will be discussed and analyzed. Course is designed for both accounting and nonaccounting majors. Prerequisites: ACCT 2210 and 3310. 3350 International Business ance 3 Examines the circumstances under which a business firm operates and finances its activities in a multinational environment. Management, finance and investment problems peculiar to foreign operations. The political environment; investment and incentives for foreign expansion; the financial activities of the multinational corporation and the continuing evolution of this form of organization. Prerequisite: 3310 or ECO 3400. Writing Emphasis Course 4300 Investments 3 4

The basic principles of investments suitable for the individual and for business organizations. A study of the security market, the market influences on security prices, exchange regulation and the development of investment programs. Prerequisite: 3310. 4310 Capital and Money Markets 3 Relationship of financial markets to private and public sectors; workings of the stock market, the corporate bond market, the money market, the government securities market and the international money market. Prerequisites: ECO 1020, 1021, 3310. Writing Emphasis Course 4320 Capital Budgeting Management 3 Theoretical and analytical skills applied to the study of capital budgeting are developed and explored. The interrelationship between financing and investment decisions are examined. A comprehensive examination of current techniques and tools required for the capital budgeting analysis are explored. Prerequisite: 3310. 4330 Working Capital Management 3 Current techniques used to manage corporate cash, accounts receivable, and inventories are explored. The analytical tools and skills needed to manage corporate short-term investments and financing are developed and examined. Prerequisite: 3310. 4500 Seminar in Selected Topics in ance 3 The course surveys areas in economics and/or finance influenced by contemporary developments in the disciplines that result from changes in the economy, technology or methodological breakthroughs. An in-depth study focusing on a specific area in the theory, policy and contemporary practices in ance. 3 hours lecture. FINC-410 CMPT APPLICATIONS IN ECON/FIN Computer Applications in Economics and ance. Prerequisites: ECON 207, or 208, or FINC 321. This course is designed to use computer concepts in the context of economics and finance applications. Empirical and theoretical aspects of economics and finance are studied. Computer applications are covered in statistics and econometrics, cost-benefit analysis, decision-making, portfolio analysis, inputoutput economics, and the simulation of economic and financial models. FINC-425 WORKING CAPITAL MANAGEMENT Working Capital Management. Prerequisites: FINC 321; major within the School of Business. Detailed treatment of topics such as components of working capital; cash budgeting; short-term financial planning. 7

Credit management; cash and inventory management; short-term lending and borrowing. 3 hours lecture. FINC-429 REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT Real Estate Investment. Prerequisites: FINC 321. Covers mortgage financing, ownership forms, tax factors, inflation, leverage, risk/return, cash flow projection, holding period, and disposition strategy. Examines the rent or house-buying decision; land, apartment building, office building, and shopping center investments; and the current investment climate. 3 hours lecture. FINC-430 FUTURES/OPTIONS/DERIVATIVES Futures/Options, and other Derivatives. Prerequisites: FINC 326; major within the School of Business. This course introduces students to derivative instruments including options, futures and swaps. Definitions, concepts, and strategies are explained. Valuation methods are presented. This course also discusses different hedging strategies. 3 hours lecture. FINC-431 ADV INTL FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT Advanced International ancial Management. Prerequisites: FINC 327; major within the School of Business. Measurement and management of foreign exchange exposure. Exchange and country risk. The Foreign Investment Decision, multi-national capital budgeting, cost of capital and financial structure. 3 hours lecture. FINC-490 SEMINAR IN FINANCE Seminar in ance. Prerequisites: FINC 322, and 326, and 327; major within the School of Business. The seminar is the terminal course in the concentration. It has two principal objectives. It provides students with an integrated overview of the major subfields of the concentration - Investments, Corporate and International ance and ancial Markets and Institutions. Second, students will choose a research topic in consultation with the instructor, make a classroom presentation, and write a formal paper on the topic. Meets the University Writing Requirement for BAFN majors. 3 hours seminar. 8

FINC-491 CO-OP EDUCATION IN FINANCE to 8.00 Cooperative Education in ance. Prerequisites: Departmental approval. Special fee. This course is aimed at synthesizing theory and practice. Students will be provided an opportunity to have an exposure to one or two off-campus on-job-trainings in various aspects of quantitative methods of one, or more businesses. Full-time students may alternate between school and business whereas part-time students may take course in parallel with school. FINC-501 CORPORATE FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT Corporate ancial Management. Prerequisites: ACCT 501, and ECON 501, and INFO 501; major within the School of Business; M.B.A. degree students only. An introductory course in corporate financial management which provides students with an understanding of the fundamental concepts of modern finance from an analytical and quantitative perspective and serves as a foundation course for further work in finance. The course stresses: valuation; capital budgeting decisions; capital structure and dividend decisions. 3 hours lecture. FINC-502 FINANCIAL INSTS & MONETARY POL ancial Institution and Monetary Policy. Prerequisites: ECON 501 and 505. This course analyzes the structure and functioning of the monetary financial system of the United States. Topics include Commercial Banking System, Federal Reserve System, financial markets, financial intermediaries, determination of the level and structure of interest rates, and key issues in monetary policy in the United States. Cross-listed with Economics and ance, ECON 502. 3 hours lecture. FINC-551 INVEST/PORT & SECURITY ANALYSIS Investments, Portfolios and Security Analysis. Prerequisites: FINC 501. Develops the analytical methods relevant to investment management. Techniques are presented for the evaluation of corporate equity, debt, and other securities. Portfolio theory is presented in the context of formulating and managing appropriate asset portfolios. 3 hours lecture. 9

FINC-552 INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL POLICY International ancial Policy. Prerequisites: FINC 501. Analytically oriented introduction to the political, economic, operational and tax environment in which international business, particularly multinational corporations, functions. Stressing methods of analysis, which enable defensive strategies against risk, the course is comprised of five major units: Political and country risk; foreign exchange risk; long-run investments and financing; working capital management; and control performance evaluation and tax planning. Cross listed with International Business, INBS 552. 3 hours lecture. FINC-553 FINANCIAL DERIVATIVES ancial Derivatives. Prerequisites: FINC 551. This course extends the array of financial instruments covered in the initial investment course to include modern hedging instruments such as futures, options and swaps. Included is a description, analysis, and use of these instruments by corporations, banks, and investors. 3 hours lecture. FINC-554 ADVANCED FINANCIAL POLICY Advanced ancial Policy. Prerequisites: FINC 501. Focuses on the application of valuation, investment, financing and dividend decisions to case studies. It examines various practical problems in capital budgeting, the valuation of different kinds of debt and options, and financial planning and strategy. 3 hours lecture. FINC-555 FINANCIAL STRUCTURE ANALYSIS ancial Structure Analysis. Prerequisites: FINC 553. This is an advanced course in finance which deals with the long-term financing decisions and strategies of the corporations. The theory of capital structure and costs of capital is presented. Emphasis is on integration of the investment and financing decisions of the firm. 3 hours lecture. 10

FINC-556 MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS Mergers and Acquisitions. Prerequisites: FINC 501. This course examines the process by which mergers and acquisitions take place. The focus of the course is on the environment surrounding mergers and acquisitions, including motivations for M&A, how targets or buyers are found, M&A as a step in the strategic planning process, valuation of the target company, ethical issues in the M&A process, and implementation of the M&A. 3 hours lecture. FINC-570 CASE STUDIES IN FINANCIAL MGMT Case Studies In ancial Management. Prerequisites: FINC 501. Emphasizing the central theme of value creation and capital market efficiency that reappear throughout the course, students will analyze through a case-study method the way in which the subjects of financial analysis and forecasting, the cost of capital, capital budgeting, the management of shareholders equity and corporate debt, innovative financial instruments, and corporate restructurings (including mergers and buyouts) contribute to creating firm value. 3 hours lecture. FINC-575 INDEP STUDY IN FINANCE Credits: 1.00 to 3.00 Independent Study in ance. Prerequisites: Departmental approval. Under faculty guidance and supervision, this tutorial course is open to students who wish to pursue individual study and research in a particular discipline. Written permission of the appropriate department chair and the MBA director must be secured prior to enrolling in this course. FINC-576 SEMINAR IN FINANCIAL INNOVATIONS Seminar in ancial Innovations. Prerequisites: FINC 551 and FINC 552, or FINC 551 and FINC 554, or FINC 551 and 570, or FINC 552 and FINC 554, or FINC 552 and FINC 570, or FINC 554 and FINC 570. Designed to describe and analyze the new developments in the field of finance - corporate, international, and financial markets and institutions - that have appeared over the last five years and the possible directions for the future.
