November 10, 2017 St. Barnabas Catholic School Through our Catholic Faith, GROWING IN MIND, HEART, BECOME Growing in AND Mind,SPIRIT Heart,TO and spirit LEADERS IN THE WORLD Calendar Dear Warrior Families: For the past three weeks, St. Barnabas School has been blessed to welcome Esteban and Maria to our community through the Exchange Student Program Experiencias Family STEM Night Interculturales. Maria and Esteban are here during the Guatemalan summer. While 6-8 PM living with the Maddox and Meinerding families, these awesome eighth graders have the opportunity to practice their English and experience life in Midwest November 17 America. Both were so excited for Halloween and are looking forward to Thanksgiving. When asked what the best part of their experience has been, Esteban Can Food Drive Pick-up, by Anna s shared, The best part has been my host family, the school, and my many new friends. Maria shared similar sentiments saying, My host sister, my family, the House kind teachers, and I like my classes. NOVEMBER 16 STEM Day, Wear your STEM shirt NOVEMBER 22, 23, 24 THANKSGIVING BREAK, NO SCHOOL The host families feel the same way! I (Carissa) know our family has grown to care deeply for Esteban, and we are so glad that he is here. Maria fits right in, Mr. Meinerding shared as the families worshipped side-by-side last week at mass. Both Catholic, Esteban and Maria have had the opportunity to share in our faith experiences as well. What a special experience! Esteban and Maria have had homework to complete for the program while here. First, each prepared a special meal for their families bringing several ingredients with them from Guatemala. Incredible! (Esteban shared that he practiced with his mom several times before he came to the U.S.) In addition, both students will teach their peers about their lives in Guatemala through a special presentation in the coming weeks. And finally, to practice their English, they will teach a craft to younger students. Wow! As you can see Maria and Esteban, the host families, and St. Barnabas are all benefiting from this amazing program. If your family might consider hosting a student next year through Jump the World - Experiencias Intercultrales, please contact Mrs. Maddox at cmaddox@stbindy.org and let her know you would like more information when the time comes. Host families should have a student in 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grades. Thank you! God bless, Mrs. Maddox & Mrs. Schnarr, Proud Principals
