Frequently Asked Quest tions: Instructors Registration and getting started How do I register for edge select? 1. Navigate to https://edgeselect.sagepub.com/instructor This will take you to a registration/login page. 2. Fill out the form (all fields are required) and hit Register. Bookmark the above URL, because once registered, this will be the same page you use to login. 3. You will see a note that your registration needs to be approved before continuing. Registration usually takes less than one business day to approve. You ll receive a confirmation email from SAGE once you ve been approved. 1

Do I need an access code? Instructors do not need access codes to register for SAGE edge select. Instructors are subject to approval by SAGE before accessing edge select, and that approval process may take up to one business day. Can I use my SAGE instructor account credentials? At this time, SAGE edge select requires a separate registration in addition to the one used for instructor resource sites. How do I create a course? The process is quick and very simple. To set up a course, click New Course in the top right of the instructor home page. The screen that pops up will ask you for some basic info: Textbook (this has a dropdown list of all available titles), course title, section, and term. If your course has multiple sections, it is recommended that you build one course per section, instead of one for the entire course. Clicking Save will create the course and generate the Course ID. This is the ID your students will need to appear in the course s gradebook within SAGE edge select. You will need to provide this to your students for them to join your course. 2

For easy reference, the ID appears under the course descriptor: How long will I have access to the course? Instructor access to SAGE edge select does not expire. Student access is for six months. The student version of SAGE edge select What s in the student version of SAGE edge select? Pre tests. Each chapter has a 25 question pre test. Each question is related to one of that chapter's learning objectives. The pre test is intended to be a diagnostic tool to test chapter comprehension after reading the chapter. Questions in the pre test adhere to Bloom's Taxonomy and are tied to the Knowledge (about 50%) and Comprehension (about 50%) domains. Study Plans. A personalized study plan is generated once a pre test is taken for a particular chapter. The study plan generates resources organized by the chapter's learning objectives. Resources are generated based on incorrect answers and low confidence correct answers to pre test questions. Taking the post test will update the assigned resources in the study plan. The study plan resources vary by textbook. All study plans include etext pages from the text that are relevant to the specific learning objectives. Each learning objective may also contain videos, additional readings, and other multimedia content. Post tests. Each chapter's post test has 25 questions. Each question is related to one of that chapter's printed learning objectives. Unlike the pre test, which is a static test for every student that takes it, the post test is generated from a 40 question pool. Post tests can be taken more than once, though the test will add different questions in subsequent attempts. If you do not master a learning objective after the first attempt, the study plan will continue to provide additional resources to you, and you can attempt to master that objective by retaking the post test. The most recent attempt is the attempt that will be recorded to your gradebook. Post test questions are written to cover all of that chapter's learning objectives. Questions in the post test adhere to Bloom's Taxonomy and are tied to the Knowledge (about 20%), Comprehension (about 50%), and Application or Analysis (about 30%) domains. Post test questions are different from the pre test questions, and different from your textbook s test bank. There is a full student FAQ available at: http://www.sagepub.com/support/sageedgeselect.sp 3

Can I preview the student version of SAGE edge select? As an instructor, you can preview all features of the student experience this includes the 25 question pre testscourse you ve built by the study plan and all its media resources, and 25 question post tests. Too do so, navigate inside a clicking on the course title. This will take you to the course roster. There is a student preview button in the upper right, next to the logout button: You ll be taken to the student view. A left navigation menu will appear with resources listed by chapter. Click on any chapter to expand and see any available resource: Click on any resource to navigate to it. From here you can preview pre tests, study plans, and post tests. When you are ready to leave the student preview and return to the instructor dashboard, click on the Exit Student Preview button in the upper right: 4

Student performance How do I get my students grades? From the instructor home page, click on the Download Grades button to the right of your course name to generate a spreadsheet with all student grades. This can easily be imported intoo your LMS gradebook (if desired). How do I see an individual student s work? From the instructor home page, click on the title of the course to access the student roster: Click on a studentt name to drill in deeper: 5

The score shown is the student s current post test score for that chapter. Clicking on a chapter title will drill deeper into that chapter s study plan: From this screen, you can see which items in the student s personalized study plan they have accessed (shown with a green check) and which items have not been accessed (those in orange). You can use this to assign specific resources if desired. Click on the student s name in the upper right to choose a different student to view: 6

Connection via campus Learning Management Systems What Learning Management Systems are supported? SAGE edge select works with many of the most recent versions of popular learning management systems including Blackboard, Moodle, Desire2Learn, and Canvas. Your institution s learning management administrator/instructional technologist can confirm if you have the latest system. What are the benefits of using SAGE edge select with my LMS? Integrating with your campus LMS has two benefits. One, your students will be able to access the product through the LMS and using their campus account. There is no need for an additional registration. They will still need to redeem an access code upon first accessing the system. Second, it allows you to assign SAGE edge select post tests as a graded test, with the results of those tests going directly to your course gradebook. Only post test scores are recorded. Pre test scores are not. If you do not want to integrate SAGE edge select with your LMS, grades are downloadable in Excel format, and most LMSs support grade import via Excel. How do I integrate SAGE edge select with my campus LMS? If you are interested in integrated SAGE edge select with your campus LMS, please contact your sales representative. They will work with one of our media specialists to help get it set up. Need to find your sales representative? Go to: http://www.sagepub.com/replocator.sp 7
