Board members are responsible for overseeing PTO sponsored events and facilitating communication between families and school staff. Newsletters are periodically sent home with your children highlighting PTO activities. It is our intention to support our teachers, administrators, students and their families so that we may work together in creating a successful school community. PTO meetings are held monthly, generally the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at EHES in Room 205. Meetings run approximately one hour. An agenda will be posted on-line prior to a meeting as well. There are no dues and all are welcome to attend. We need your help! The EHES PTO relies solely on its volunteers for its success. All EHES PTO-sponsored events and activities are directly supported through the work of our volunteers and monies generated by our fundraisers. No tax dollars are spent to support EHES PTO programs. Level of volunteer commitment can vary. You may choose to be on the front lines or work behind the scenes. It's really up to you! You do not need to attend monthly meetings or be available during school hours to be a part of the EHES PTO. Tasks such as copying, counting box tops, baking, addressing envelopes, and making phone calls all can be done after hours. Meetings are designed to discuss finances, fundraising, volunteer needs, and upcoming events/event planning. Prior to meeting adjournment, there is an opportunity for open discussion. Meeting dates have been set for the current school year and are as follows... September 28 February 15 October 19 March 15 November 16 April 12 December 21 May 17 January 18 June TBD PLEASE JOIN US- The more input, the better! Page 3 of 4 Basket Bash Year Round Happenings...at a glance EHES PTO Cultural Arts Throughout the year, the EHES PTO hosts many special guests for each grade level, as well as for the entire school. These performances are selected with teaching staff and administrators to enhance our children's educational experiences as they directly relate to the curriculum. We have hosted guests such as Mad Science, Living Abe Lincoln, Project Oceanography, CT Audubon Society, Colonial Kids, Music Performer John Farrell, Kid Power-Operation Lunch Line, Science Express, Energize Guys, and Sadecky's Puppets. We would welcome EHES PTO volunteers to assist with our Cultural Arts Program. Please contact our new program coordinator Jen Wilkins at wilkinsjs1214@gmail.com if you are interested or have any suggestions for this program. After School Programs The EHES PTO offers a variety of after school programs throughout the year. These programs meet immediately following dismissal and generally last an hour. They run on a 4-, 6-, or 8- week cycle. Costs vary, approximately $25-60. Program instructors collect all monies minus 10% to cover insurance needs. Programs have included Arts & Crafts, Karate, Fencing, Pottery, and Mad Science. A program brochure and registration form are sent home with students prior to the start of the program. Our current After School Program coordinators are Kelli Little at kellilittle@outlook.com and Jen McVerry at jennifermcv@gmail.com. Please contact Kelli or Jen with any questions regarding programs. We are also open to new ideas- so if you have a hidden talent, be sure to share it!! NOTE: Children enrolled in the YMCA Kid's Corner School Program can attend PTOsponsored after school programs and be dismissed to the YMCA program until parent pick-up. BASKET BASH Basket Bash is our school's biggest fundraiser. All proceeds from Basket Bash support the PTO Cultural Arts Program at EHES. It is generally held in early May and takes place in our school gymnasium. Each classroom is asked to select a basket theme and create that basket with donations brought in by the children. We also solicit baskets from local businesses. Baskets are wrapped and raffled off the evening of the event. It is a wonderful family event and many go home with smiles! HELP WANTED The EHES PTO currently needs volunteers for the following positions/events: Book Fair Volunteers Holiday Fair Co-Chair Basket Bash Committee Members Fundraising Committee Cultural Events Coordinator Board Secretary for the 2018-2019 School Year (Shadow this year)
