ST PIUS X PRIMARY SCHOOL DUBBO NEWSLETTER East Street Dubbo 2830 Email: stpiusdubbo@bth.catholic.edu.au Website: www.stpiusxdubbo.catholic.edu.au Phone: 6882 3808 Fax: 6884 4519 Term 3, Week 7 Monday 26th August, 2013 Thought for the Week Thank you Lord for making our celebrations so special and enabling everything to work out according to plan. Our vision for St. Pius X school community is that in providing a quality, positive learning environment, all children will reach their true potential and be witnesses to the Catholic faith. From the PrIncipal Dear Parents I am actually speechless and very touched. Our 3-day celebrations were certainly blessed from start to finish. The comments I heard on the night indicated how successful the entire night was. It was very pleasing to see so many of our lovely parents from the past not to mention all of you who managed to make it to the Dinner, the Open Day, the Mass and the BBQ. Lots of people met and caught up with old friends. This is what the celebrations were intended to be. I did all my acknowledgements on the night so I m not going to repeat myself. However, a huge token of thanks to Dr. Bev Moriarty, Head of C.S.U. Dubbo for being the main photographer. Has she taken some photos, they are superb!! They will be on the website this week as Bev has photographed everyone 234 people. You are a treasure Bev, and she did this for the love of. Photography is one of her hobbies. You will agree with me that the food was really yummy, so congratulations to the Castlereagh Hotel. Their service was beyond compare. Thank you also to Emily Carroll, the Events Manager of the Convention Centre, who was such an efficient young lady and organised everything we requested. We were more than happy with the Convention Centre and their very pleasant manner. Alan was an absolute professional who worked very hard to ensure the hall was perfect. Thank you to our Director Jenny Allen and husband who attended the dinner and the Mass the next day. To the Principals, Kerry Morris and husband Ian, Anthony O Leary and wife Karen and Consultants Janine Kearney, Warren Frew and wife Kathy, who also attended our celebrations. We were very fortunate to have one of our first Kinder students Michael Page attend our celebrations. Father Pat Ruane and Brien Murphy honoured us with their presence not to mention Fr. Greg Bellamy. The dancers were the icing on the cake they danced beautifully. Thank you parents for allowing them to be part of this iconic event. I tried to get around the 24 tables but unfortunately I couldn t make it to some tables. My humble apologies to you and please accept my personal thanks for attending the dinner.

Monday 26th August Tuesday 27th August Wednesday 28th August Thursday 29th August Friday 30th August All very tired Professional Development Mrs Sharon and Jo Taylor Mrs Hart and Mrs Hunt Professional Development Principals Professional Development All dads, grandads come and have a shared lunch with your children 1.00pm Yrs 5 & 6 PCYC Yr 3 excursion to Balladoran Yr 6 Entrance Test St. John s College. They will leave St. Pius X at 9.00 a.m. prompt on the bus We are not waiting for late comers as the children have to be at the College at 9.15 a.m. If your child comes late you have to drive them to the College. After the test they will go to PCYC Trifecta tickets are being sent today. This can bring in huge money. Every family needs to pitch in and sell, sell, sell tickets. The plan at this stage is to build a new Adventure Playground. Remember this will benefit EVERY CHILD. The current playground is getting old and WH & S standards could come into play. It is very costly to get a new playground so please don t leave the selling of tickets to a few parents. Everyone needs to sell, sell, sell Happy Father s Day dads have a beaut day and let the girls and boys spoil you. Thank you for all your support Remember It is not the years in your life, but the life in your years that counts. Cook Books are on sale $10 each great souvenir of our Ruby Celebrations. Please pray for our Year 6 s who are being confirmed this weekend. It is a very special time in your lives Year 6 as you are about to commence an important spiritual journey. Remember to go to Mass every weekend and spend time with Jesus. God be with you. Yours sincerely Heather Irwin Principal Dip T ELIC BED.MED ST John s College Placement Testing Day This Friday is the testing day for those Year Six students attending St John s College in 2014. The bus for the college will be leaving St Pius X promptly at 9.00am. Students will need pencil, sharpener, pens, ruler, water, recess and lunch (to eat on way to PCYC from the college). If your child is attending the college next year and you have not received a letter regarding this day it may be a good idea to contact them as soon as possible. PCYC Year Five and Six A reminder that Years Five and Six are starting their four week PCYC program this Friday. All children participating MUST be a member, membership forms have been sent home, so if you are yet to fill these out this form please do so as soon as possible and return it to Mrs Jones or Mr Cant with the membership fee of $5.50. Thanks. Handball Competition Good luck to the students from Year Three who start their first St Pius X handball competition this week. A reminder to Year Five students to get their $2 in this week for your competition in week eight. Greg Cant

What a wonderful celebration at Mass on Sunday! I want to thank all the beautiful children who came to sing in our choir, especially those who were backing up from the dinner the night before. Thank you to the parents of these children for, without your support, the children would not be able to make it. We had a massive choir of 48 children with many of them coming from Kinder and Year 1. The voices of our primary students really helped the little ones to make lots of volume. Thank you boys and girls. Next weekend is a big weekend for our Confirmation students. They have spent 4 weeks getting prepared for this sacrament so let s make sure we keep them in our prayers this week as it is such a special occasion. Thank you to all our parents who supported their children on this journey, especially those who acted as facilitators. Don t forget our dads, grandads and special men in our lives next Sunday. Make sure you spoil them and let them know how important they are. Dates to Remember: Confirmation Weekend Sacrament of Reconciliation Saturday August 31 st 6pm Sunday September 1 st 9am and 6pm Sunday St Laurence s 7am. September 10 th Parent Information Evening.
