Receipt of the application acknowledges your request for employment with the Martin County School System. Your application will be placed on file for two years. After two years, this application will expire and it will be destroyed. If you wish to be considered for employment after the expiration of your application, you must complete a new application form. Applicants may be selected for screening interviews on the basis of their qualifications and district needs. In order to acquire a teaching position in Martin County, you must hold a valid Florida Educator s Certificate or show proof of application for the certificate. 4. Form #62B Page 9 of 10 Payment for Experience: Applicants who are recommended for employment are responsible for verifying previous acceptable teaching experience. In order to be granted previous teaching experience, the applicant must have held a teaching position, under contract, and the position must have required a teaching certificate issued by the state in which the teacher taught. Verification forms may be obtained from the Personnel Office. Teachers will be paid the beginning teacher s salary until verification of acceptable previous experience and/or advanced degrees have been received and approved by the Director of Personnel. Retroactive payments are normally made from the start date (in current fiscal year only). Salaries are based on training and experience. For instructional personnel, all teaching experience for in-state or out-of-state schools may be accepted. A year s credit is based upon completion of more than one-half of the number of days in the normal school year. Substitute Teacher Information: Applicants for substitute teacher positions should complete the instructional application. Applicants may apply for both regular teaching positions and substitute positions using the same application. Required sections for each application are: o Name, address, citizenship and birth date information o o Type of certificate and subject(s) requested Criminal History, Sealed, Expunged, and Revocation sections. A yes or no answer is required for each question for the application section to be considered complete. Additionally, if a yes answer is indicated, the boxes below that question requesting information about the record must be completed for the application form to be considered complete. Records previously cleared by Professional Practices Services must still be reported on each application submitted. o Character References must be completed for each application o Notary Processing fees are $56.00 per subject and/or endorsement requested for the initial certificate whether the first certificate is Temporary or Professional. More than one subject may be requested per initial application form. o If an applicant has held a Temporary Certificate and is applying for the initial Professional Certificate without a break in continuity, then only one fee is required to show all subjects on the Professional Certificate which were also shown on the Temporary Certificate. Official transcripts that reflect a bachelor s or higher degree from an accredited or approved institution. o o At least one official transcript reflecting a bachelor s or higher degree is required to complete the application (to prevent the system from sending an automatic return letter). However, additional information may be requested by the processing specialist if there are transcripts missing from the file which the applicant has listed as degrees or credits necessary for determining eligibility for the subject(s) requested. Therefore, it is advisable that all official transcripts reflecting earned college credit be submitted at the time of application. The official transcript used to complete the application must reflect the conferral date and the degree awarded. Notes: 1. If the required application sections are not completed, or if any of the items are not present, your application form will not be processed. A processing specialist will not review the file until all of the items have been received. 2. Copies (front and back) of valid out-of-state certificates should be included with the application form. If the certificates(s) is not included, it will not delay processing of the file, but may delay full determination of eligibility for a Florida certificate. **** IMPORTANT - CONTINUOUS EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION **** While your Temporary Certificate is valid for 3 school fiscal years you must demonstrate mastery of general knowledge by the achievement of passing scores on the Florida General Knowledge Test (GK) WITHIN ONE (1) CALENDAR YEAR OF THE DATE OF EMPLOYMENT. Individuals who are employed under contract at the end of the one (1) calendar year time period may continue to be employed through the end of the school year in which they have been contracted. Under the Florida Statutes, a school district shall not employ, or continue the employment of, an individual in a position for which a temporary certificate is required beyond this one (1) year time period if the individual has not passed the Florida General Knowledge Test.
