Beginners and more experienced players will have a great time building skills together. Confidence and skill building are stressed in this instructional program. Volunteer coaches provide instruction. One game of the season will be played under the lights at Canaday field. Parents may be asked to bring snacks to games. Practice days and site are assigned on a first come-first serve basis. No T-Ball May 27. Games begin the week of May 13 and are held on weekday evenings throughout the summer, located in Urbana and neighboring communities. Participants must be the correct age for participation by August 31, 2019. A copy of each participant s birth certificate must be presented in person at registration or sent by email to kamills@ urbanaparks.org. Player assessment: April 8 at 5:30pm at AMBUCS Park. The age range may be changed to 13-15, please check back in 2019. Volunteer Coaches Needed Adult volunteers coach our youth sports programs such as T-Ball, basketball, and soccer. Without out our volunteer coaches, we do not have leaders for your child s team. As a volunteer, you will spend 3-4 total hours per week leading practices through drills and skill building exercises and coaching games that you go to already. Training resources are provided for each sport including discussions on skills, strategies, and policies. We can even match you with another parents and you can co-coach. Parents interested in helping should call 217-255-8601, or fill out a Volunteer Application online at www.urbanaparks.org/getinvolved/volunteer/. Volunteer as head coach for your child s team and receive a refund for your child s fee once the season is complete. Applies to all youth sports teams except Wood Bat League.

Co-Recreational Indoor Soccer Wednesdays, January 9-February 13 5:45-7:15pm: Grades 5-8 7:15-8:45pm: Grades 9-12 Kids learn skills through drills and play cross-court or full-court with indoor balls and goals. Catch up or keep up with the fundamentals without risking frostbite. Players of all skill levels can benefit from this program as they sharpen their skills and work as a team. All teams are coached by volunteer coaches and soccer games are held on Saturdays or weekday evenings. Sign up for your preference of practice site. Depending upon enrollment, teams may be combined, and you may not receive your first choice. If you are switched to a different location, you will be contacted by the park district. Practices are at the coaches discretion during spring break March 19-23. Co-Rec Strikers, Middle School Boys, and Intermediate Girls leagues play with the Champaign Park District, and will play most games at Brookens or Dodds Soccer Complex in Champaign. Every child must wear an Urbana Park District reversible jersey (blue and gold) for games. Purchase these at the Phillips Recreation Center during regular business hours for $16 each. Open Gym Basketball Sundays, January 6-April 28 Ages 5-14: 1-3pm : 3-5pm, $1/person at the door is open Sunday afternoons for open gym basketball. Parents are welcome to attend the youth session. Children under 11 must be accompanied by someone 15 or older. Bring a photo ID. All Urbana Park District rules and regulations must be followed. See page 43 for participant behavior code. Open gym may be canceled on occasion for special events. When Open Gym will be canceled, signs will be posted at no less than one week prior to the cancellation. Open Gym Pickleball Open Gym Tuesdays & Thursdays, January 8-May 23, 9-11am, $1/person at the door Pickleball is a fun, fast-paced sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Anyone over age 15 can play. Don t know how to play Pickleball? Come on out anyway and learn a fun, new game! Open gyms may be canceled occasionally for activities. Notices will be on the Athletics page at urbanaparks.org, and signs will be posted at no less than one week prior to cancellation. Co-Rec Winter Volleyball League Mondays, January 21-April 8, 6-10pm Set and spike your way to victory! Games are played Mondays starting at 6pm. Get your team of three men and three women together for a 10-game round robin regular season. The winning team gets a League Champion T-shirt and bragging rights. Then play a single elimination, first-round consolation tournament. Tournament champions will hoist their trophy as the season concludes. Teams must submit a completed roster and full payment with registration. If we have an odd number of teams, the season may be extended to get every team 10 games before the tournament. Urbana Park District Adult Sports of Conduct Participants are expected to follow all Urbana Park District rules, regulations, and this code of conduct. The following code of conduct has been developed to ensure that all participants exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. All athletic programs are intended to provide a safe and fun recreational environment for the participants. 1. All teams and individuals must show respect to other participants, officials and staff members; including volunteers. Respect all the equipment and the facilities/fields. 2. Follow all Urbana Park District program rules and regulations. 3. The use of abusive or foul language is not permitted. 4. Any unnecessary physical contact towards another player, staff, coach, official, or spectator is not allowed. This also includes verbal threats/abuse. 5. Participants should refrain from participation in unlawful activities. The Urbana Park District reserves the right to suspend or remove a participant or team from a program for a violation of the code of conduct and no refunds will be given. Each situation will be evaluated on its own merit.
