INTRODUCTION A total of 8936 students from abroad, representing 128* countries and 1642 international faculty and staff representing 78* nations, claim Purdue University as their home this fall semester. The University s total international student enrollment ranks: 4th among U.S. public institutions 2 nd in the Big Ten The international student body comprises 20.5% of the total number of enrolled students. International undergraduate students comprise 14.3% of the total undergraduate body, or 4657 students. A total of 4257 international graduate and professional students represent 39.8% of all students at this level of study. College of Engineering (41.0%), College of Science (19.6%), Krannert School of Management (10.4%), Purdue Polytechnic Institute (8.5%), College of Liberal Arts (5.4%) and College of Agriculture (5.4%), enroll the highest percentages of students from abroad. China ranks first (3313) in total enrollment while India (1979) is second. South Korea (642), Taiwan (302), Malaysia (181), Colombia (164), Indonesia (116), Brazil (111), Turkey (109), and Pakistan (97) round out the top ten. China (740), India (178), Colombia (130), South Korea (76), Italy (61), Brazil (42), Germany (34), Canada (32), Turkey (31) and Japan (27) send the largest number of international faculty, researchers and staff. The majority of international scholars are in engineering (586), agriculture (238), physical sciences (159), biology (143), and Health Professions and Related Programs (106).
