International Strategy to 2020 As befits a research-led and student-focused University, our Strategic Plan commits Keele to being international in outlook and character and international in the reach and impact of its education and research programmes. This strategy underpins our commitment to these aims. Research-led: the Advancement of Knowledge Central to Keele s mission is undertaking world-leading research that transforms understanding and brings benefits to society, communities and individuals. The frontiers at which we engage in the advancement of knowledge are increasingly international, as are the research networks within which the cutting-edge knowledge and innovation to which Keele contributes are concentrated and from which many of Keele s most successful research funding bids and examples of research impact emanate. Keele encourages and enables academic staff and postgraduate researchers to engage in international scientific collaboration and exchange, as well as to build and grow international research partnerships. Student-focused: Educating Students for a Globalised World Keele graduates operate in an increasingly globalised society. The education we provide not only helps develop the knowledge and skills they require to function effectively in that internationalised and inter-cultural environment, but also prepares them to have a genuine positive impact across the globe. Our students join an active international academic community with programmes that deliver innovative opportunities to gain international perspectives on their discipline area and additional opportunities for overseas study and work experience and foreign language learning. Our broad-based education actively encourages students to draw on the insights of multiple disciplines to develop a nuanced understanding of many of the grand challenges the world currently faces. An International Campus Our students, academics and professional staff are drawn from over 100 different countries. That rich mix of cultures and our strong sense of community and cohesion provide opportunities for all staff and students to live, work and socialise in an internationalised environment. This enhances our global outlook and helps Keele act as a local and regional gateway to the rest of the world. 1 P age Review May 2017
