Children of all faiths are provided with an environment rich in spiritual growth and with a challenging academic environment. Where faith and knowledge meet hope grows! MARY S MONTH The month of May is a special time for Catholics to celebrate the gift of the Blessed Mother. She has a unique role in salvation history as the Mother of God. Her life in the Gospel years was one of service and great devotion to Jesus. During May we honor Mary in our prayers and we may place flowers before her statue. We celebrate Mothers Day on May 13, 2018. GATE CLOSURE During the carnival the gate at Lynch Road (on the office side of the building) will be closed from 3:30 pm on Friday, May 4, 2018 until Tuesday, May 15, 2018. All students are to be dropped off and picked up on the North Boundary road side of school. With the added traffic in this lot please remember: Enter the driveway nearest the Church on the school side and exit through the middle driveway. Back into parking spaces. Do not park in the driveway. Courtesy counts. Do not enter or exit using the gate near the rectory driveway. Only faculty and staff may use the parking lot on the office side.
CARNIVAL REMINDER Dates: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 4, 5, and 6 and May 11, 12, and 13. Times: Friday, 6:00 11:00 pm Saturday, 4:00 to 11:00 pm Sunday 3:00 9:00 pm. Advanced Ride Tickets are on sale in the school office for school families only and at Our Lady of Hope and St. Luke s Rectories. Ride tickets are $25 and may be used for any one day. With the advanced ride ticket you will not have to pay the entrance fee. Tickets may be purchased Monday to Friday until 3:00 pm. NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD after 3:00 pm on Fridays of the carnival. If you pay for tickets by check THE CHECK MUST BE MADE PAYABLE TO SHAW AND SONS. No Advanced ride tickets will be available for purchase on the carnival grounds. CARNIVAL RAFFLE NEWS Students in grades K 8 earn 90 minutes of carnival ride time on May 9th if their family sells $25.00 in carnival raffle tickets. Raffle tickets must be turned in by Tuesday, May 9th at 8:30 am. In case of rain, the ride day will be on May 10 th. Permission slips were sent home on April 27 th. Students in grades K-3 will ride from 10:00 11:30 and students in grades 4-8 will ride from 10:30 to Noon. Pre K students may not ride on this day. School families that sell at least $50 worth of tickets will be eligible for a special drawing whose winner will receive $1000 toward the tuition for the 2018-2019 school year. This grant will be applied directly to your OLH/SL School tuition bill. Each family will receive one chance for the first block of $50 sold, and one additional chance for every $25 worth of tickets sold thereafter. Turn your raffle tickets in to the school office to be counted for the ride day and the tuition grant. Additional tickets are available in the school office. Fun Bucket donation requests for each homeroom: Pre-K: 3 Dollar store toys suited for girl or boy (jump rope, bubble wands, play dough, cars, etc.) Please keep toys in their original wrappers. KDG: 3 Dollar Store stuffed animals Gr. 1: 12 snack size bags of salty snacks (potato chips, pretzels, cheese puffs, etc) Gr. 2: 3 four packs of non-refrigerated jello Gr. 3: 3 four packs of non-refrigerated pudding Gr. 4: 3 boxes of microwave popcorn Gr. 5: 3 boxes of fruit snacks (fruit roll-ups, fruit by the foot, fruit gummies)
Gr. 6: 3 six packs of juice boxes Gr. 7: 3 Dollar store toys Gr. 8: 3 Dollar store stuffed animals Our annual Field Day will be held on Tuesday May 1 st. The students will be participating in various games throughout the day. We are in need of volunteers to make this day a success. Parents, Grandparents, Aunts or Uncles are welcome. You will be able to spend the day with your child s homeroom. Remember you must be STAND trained in order to volunteer. Please report to Mr. T in the cafeteria by 8:15 am on Tuesday morning if you are able to help with your student s homeroom. Lunch will be provided by the School Family Association. Cafeteria services will not be available on this day. Permission slips need to be signed in order for your student to be able to use the inflatable obstacle course. Thank you for your help in making this day a success. Thank you to the SFA for providing Field Day t-shirts for students and faculty and lunch for everyone. American Legion Post 38 Auxiliary sponsored their Annual Americanism Essay Contest. Students were invited to write on the topic: What Can You Personally Do to Promote Americanism in your School, Country and World? OLH/SLS students were awarded the following prizes. Monday, May 7 th - AOB Professional Day: SCHOOL CLOSED Wednesday, June 6 th Last Day for Pre K 3 & Pre K 4 Thursday, June 7 th 8 th Grade Graduation 7pm Mass at Our Lady of Hope Church Friday, June 8 th Kindergarten Celebration 10 am SPANISH CLASSES OLH/SLS contracted with the Language Project for a Spanish teacher and materials for the 2017-18 academic year. Mrs. Lorena Ayestas has sparked interest and excitement into the foreign language program. This program provides 30 weeks of instruction and classes end on May 24, 2018. SUMMER UNIFORM The summer uniform is optional and may be worn beginning May 1. Navy blue dress shorts Dennis Uniform Company White knit shirt Regulation school shoes in black or brown (no athletic shoes) GYM UNIFORMS Students may wear their Field Day T-shirt or their gym shirt for phys. ed. from May 1 st to the end of the school year. Navy blue gym shorts or sweats may be worn.
2 FUNDRAISERS IN 1 NIGHT WEDNESDAY, MAY 16 TH Barnes & Noble Spring Book Fair 5:00 8:00 pm at The Avenue at White Marsh. Every student attending on Tuesday will receive an out of uniform pass to be used on Thursday, May 18th. You will be able to purchase your required summer reading books! If you can t join us on May 16 th, you can place an order on-line from May 16 th through May 20 th. Please use our book fair #12235230. Chili s 11:00 am 11:00 pm also at The Avenue at White Marsh. You must present our flyer when ordering for our school to get credit. With each flyer presented on May 16 th Chili s will donate 10% of the event day sales. This is a School Family Association sponsored event. Thank you for your support! AUCTION We are seeking items for our auction in the fall, such as handcrafts, new products, gift cards or services. We are also in need of baskets and decorative gift bags for any occasion. Please send all donations to the school office. Save the date, the auction will be on October 5, 2018. KEEP SAVING....
