This year, the format of ITLI has changed. We will be offering a three-week modular training, in which participants will choose the particular training modules that fit with their interests and calling. Specifically, in addition to common modules that all ILTI participants will complete, you will choose between Leading a Literacy Ministry: English and Leading a Literacy Ministry: Non-English, and also between English as a Second Language and Primer Construction. This will allow you to focus on what s important to you. We have also added the option to complete this application online instead of sending in the application documents. Please visit our website for more information: www.literacyevangelism.org/ilti As you fill out this application, make sure all documents are completed and signed before you return it. Please note that you must be able to speak English proficiently and also to read and write English well in order to be accepted for this ILTI. Applications will not be considered until all parts are returned. Applications for non-us Citizens cannot be considered after March 20, and for US Citizens after May 30, 2019. The parts you need to return are: 1) Form for Sponsoring Organizations (optional for US Citizens) 2) Application Form 3) Emergency Medical Information Form 4) Photo of Applicant 5) Application Fee ($30 US); if you are unable to send the application fee, please let us know. We may be able to accept it upon your arrival in Tulsa for ILTI. LITERACY & EVANGELISM INTERNATIONAL International Literacy Training Institute (ILTI) June 8 28, 2019 APPLICATION FORM This application must be received by March 20, 2019 (applicants outside the USA) or by May 30, 2019 (applicants from the USA). The application fee of US $30 (non-refundable) should accompany the application (if you are unable to send the application fee, please let us know; we may be able to accept it upon your arrival in Tulsa for ILTI). This fee is not applicable to any other fee or subsequent training. Please Note: Applicant must be proficient in the English language. In addition, all accepted applicants agree to put into practice the skills learned at ILTI by teaching a literacy (for non-readers) and/or an English Language Ministry class (for learning English) within 3 months of graduation from ILTI. Most books and resources for the course will be in digital form (included in tuition fee). A small scholarship may be granted subject to the availability of funds and the number of requests received. Early applications and non-us applicants will be given priority. Scholarships do not include transportation expenses; participants and/or their sponsoring organizations will be fully responsible for travel to and from the Tulsa area. Scholarship needed? Yes No All fees must be paid by the third day of the course, June 10, 2019. Please note that we may need to limit the total number of participants that attend ILTI depending on lodging availability. Accepted applicants must provide us with a confirmed travel itinerary (flight and/or bus information) in order to guarantee a spot at ILTI. If a limit on participants is imposed, we will institute it on a first-come, first-serve basis according to when each applicant provides us with his or her travel itinerary. We will keep all applicants informed by e-mail as we approach our limit; please do not hesitate to contact us before you purchase your tickets to verify space availability. In order to keep training fees as low as possible, ALL PARTICIPANTS are required to give one hour each day to Community Living Assignments (e.g. cleaning, maintenance tasks, food preparation etc.) It is not permitted to be involved in any kind of fundraising activities during the training period. Sale of merchandise on the campus is prohibited. Due to the intensity of the training, there will be no time to travel on out-of-state trips during the training period. Any outside activities not connected with the training are discouraged. Activities that cause you to miss training sessions may prevent you from being considered to have successfully completed the training. E. ILTI 2019 will consist of three weeks of training. During the first two weeks, you will be able to choose one option from each of two sets of elective course modules, based on your ministry interests and calling. Primers are the books used to teach non-readers how to read in their native language. English as a Second Language This module is intended for those who plan to develop a ministry teaching English as a second or foreign language to those who do not speak English. Notes for ILTI Applicants to Remember: Due to the intensity of the training, there will be no time to travel on an out-of-state trip during the training period. Outside activities not connected with the International Literacy Training Institute are discouraged. Please let us know if you will need to attend a family or friend s event during ILTI. Please make sure to provide us with your confirmed travel itinerary as soon as possible after you are accepted in order to guarantee your spot at ILTI. As you plan to book your travel, make sure that your destination is Tulsa, Oklahoma. The local airport is Tulsa International Airport (TUL). ILTI staff will NOT be able to provide transportation for you from Oklahoma City or other locations to Tulsa, so please do not book flights that do not ultimately arrive in Tulsa. If you do, you will be responsible for your own transportation to Tulsa. The courses are intensive with evening work and testing of subject knowledge required. During the week there will be little leisure time. There will be some planned social activities and outings on the second weekend. It is not permitted to be involved in any kind of fundraising activities during the training period. Sale of merchandise on the campus is prohibited. During your stay at our dormitory: Clothing may be casual, but should be modest. Climate in Tulsa is very hot and humid in June and July, temperatures between 80-100F. Nights are generally cooler, between 70-80F. The dorm is air conditioned, and the temperature will be kept moderate. If you cannot tolerate air conditioning, you may want to bring a light sweater or jacket. There may be weekend activities that friends of LEI are hosting, which may include swimming in our host family s pool. However, this is optional. If you are interested, you may bring modest swimming attire for these occasions and don t forget the sunscreen, if needed. It would be good to bring some sturdy walking shoes for weekend events. There will also be a chance to play volleyball and take walks in the area surrounding LEI. Laundry facilities are provided. You will be responsible for doing your own laundry. There is a fee of $1.00 per load, for the washer and dryer. Linens, blankets, towels & washcloths, and pillows are provided. The dorm rooms are small single or double rooms. Bathrooms are shared quad bathrooms. Sexes are separated into different quads.
