JSS MAHAVIDYAPEETHA JSS COLLEGE OF ARTS, COMMERCE AND SCIENCE (AUTONOMOUS) Ooty Road, Mysuru - 570025 Swachchata Pakwada Programme Report Swachh Bharat Mission has been launched to achieve total sanitation and cleanliness by 2 nd Oct, 2019. The present Indian government is ambitious to take the whole effort as citizen s movement by ensuring their active participation. In the same line, Ministry of HRD called for the people s participation at various levels with a thrust on youth and to facilitate the same has released the schedule to observe the programme in the respective institutions from 01.09.2017 to 15.09.2017. University Grants Commission, being motivated in this regard has joined the hands in organizing this as a movement at the Institutional/College level and have jointly released guidelines in organizing the events under the caption Swachchata Pakhwada. As per the directions of MHRD and UGC, Swachchata Pakhwada Programme was observed in the College from 01.09.2017 to 15.09.2017 the programme scheduled for fifteen days and each programme captioned suitably by the MHRD and the same was retained and all the programme took place successfully except one programme which demanded interaction with the commission could not take place because of the busy schedule of the officers due to Dasara celebrations at Mysuru. The brief highlights of the day-to-day activities are as follows: On the first day, the programme was inaugurated by Dr. C G Betsurmath, Executive Secretary of JSS MVP who oriented the student gathering on Hygiene and cleanliness. Dr. P. Venkataramaiah, Former Vice Chancellor of University of Mysore administered oath to students to commit themselves to hygiene and cleanliness. Prof. B V Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of JSSCACS briefed the audience about the activities designed for 15 days under Swachhata Pakhwada Programme. Sri. B. Niranjana Murthy, Asst. Director, College Education Division of JSSMVP and Sri M.S.S. Kumar, Syndicate Member of University of Mysore were the Chief Guests. Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal of the College welcomed the gathering and Prof. D S Sadashivamurthy, Professor of Economics proposed Vote of Thanks.
Day 1. Clean Campus Day On Friday, 01.09.2017, after the inauguration, the students of NSS and other segments of the college participated in cleaning the college campus. The college premises including garden, play ground, vehicle parking and other areas of the premises weres cleaned by more than 300 students. The management of the college extended all the necessary amenities to the activity. Day 2. Clean Hostel Day On Saturday, 02.09.2017, the inmates of the hostel numbering around 265 involved in cleaning every corner of the women s hostel situated in the premises of the college. The girls students were divided into groups with particular cleaning responsibilities such as garden area around the hostel, corridors, rooms, roofs, floors, windows etc., and the cleaning work was carried out for more than two hours under the guidance of Warden and Teacher-In charge. Day 3. Green Campus Day On Sunday, 03.09.2017, as a part of Green Campus Day, every corner of the college campus was cleaned by NSS students and the regular students. The Chief Executive Prof. B V Sambashivaiah, Principal of the College Prof. M Mahadevappa and other senior teachers planted saplings and motivated the students to dedicate themselves in planting more samplings. Day 4. Clean Mess Day On Monday, 04.05.2017, the day of the programme was observed as Clean Mess day and as a part of it the Kitchen and Dining hall of the women s hostel of the College was cleaned by the Kitchen staff and the students. The Kitchen personnel were oriented about Swachchata Pakwada programmes to motivate their complete involvement. Followed by orientation, the kitchen personnel along with the interested students who were free from the study schedule were involved in the activity. More than 30 staff and students involved in cleaning the kitchen, utensils and complete dining hall including furniture and walls for more than 4 hours. Day 5. Essay contest on Innovative ways for spreading the message of hygiene A prior notice was given to the students about the topic and timings by announcing the same in all notice boards accessible to the students and had requested the interested candidates to register themselves for essay writing competition. 31 students appeared for the competition. The judgement system was developed and the performance was judged

Clean Surrounding Day: Roads leading to the Institution On Wednesday, 06.09.2017, the students of NSS involved in cleaning the road connecting the College campus as a part of clean surrounding day. The five groups were formed involving 20 students in each group and were assigned the responsibility of cleaning three connecting roads in the campus to college building. The management of the College extended all the necessary amenities for the activity. Day 7. Care for surroundings: Study of Garbage cleaning systems in Public Spaces On Thursday, 07.09.2017, the students were taken to the surrounding areas of the college such as Pinjrapole, foot of Chamundi hill etc., to study the scope for cleanliness and the same was observed by the students and had a discussion on the possible remedial measure to keep the area clean. They also involved in shramdaan to keep those areas clean and educated the local people about keeping clean the public spaces. Day 8. Care for surroundings: Visit to Slum/Villages to explain the concepts of cleanliness On Friday, 08.09.2017, the students of NSS visited village Hadinaaru which is 20 km away from the College. The students cleaned the premises of school, temple and the public library which are the areas utilised by the residents of the villagers. Students distributed the leaflets to the villagers to create awareness among them, interacted and educated them individually wherever possible and enacted a street play as tool to educate illiterate villagers. The management of the college extended all the necessary amenities for this activity. Day 9. Clean Surrounding Day: Visit to markets nearby to study the system for cleaning On Saturday, 09.09.2017 the students of NSS, NCC and other interested students involved in visiting the market place and had a discussion on scope for keeping hygiene in the market area and the responsibilities of the people representatives, government authorities and the general public. Day 10. Clean surrounding day: Visit to Government Hospital to study the hygiene and system for disposal of garbage and Hospital Wastes On Sunday, 10.09.2017 50 students of NSS, NCC and other wings visited the Primary Health Centre of Chamundipuram, which is a quite densely populated area of old Mysuru. The doctors and the senior staff members explained about the hygiene system in the
hospital. They also explained about the waste segregation and waste management system of the hospital. The students raised many question about the system for which the authorities explained and oriented the students very scientifically. Day 11. Clean Surrounding Day: Visit to Institution for the Poor / Orphanages On Monday,11.09.2017, the students visited the charitable institutions such as Home for the aged (Sri Bharati Seva Vridhashrama), Rehabilitation centre for women and children (Shakthidhama). They rendered volunteer services at Home for the aged, spent quality time with the elders and distributed fruits to them. Another group of volunteers visited Rehabilitation centre (Vidyaranyapuram) run for women and children, oriented them about hygiene in their rooms and also distributed nutritious food among them. Day 12. Care for the surroundings: Debriefing session with the commissioner, Local body about the system for cleanliness This activity was conducted with the local area corporater as the commissioner was busy with Mysuru Dasara Celebrations. Day 13. Cleanest Hostel Room Contest The clean-room contest was conducted in the women s hostel situated in the college premises. The college had framed the judging system comprising of three external senior and experienced staff of sister institutions. Girl students numbering 265 in 75 rooms participated in the contest actively and enthusiastically. The judges gave the results after two hours of inspection and distribution of prizes was done on the closing day ceremony. Day 14. Elocution contest on Health and Hygiene is the Real Wealth A prior notice was given to the students about the topic and timings by announcing the same in all notice boards accessible to the students and had requested the interested candidates to register themselves for essay writing competition. 14 students appeared for the competition. The judgement system was developed and the performance was judged objectively, award of three prizes for Elocution, Writing competition was held on the concluding day function. Day 15. Concluding Day On the final day, the students and teachers who participated actively in the programme were felicitated and prizes were announced by Chief Executive of the College Prof. B V Sambashivaiah.
