ISSUE 21 31 July, 2018 Dear Parents, In staffing news, I wish to inform the school community that Mr Kerry Lee will be retiring at the end of Term 3 after 11 years of outstanding work in his chaplaincy role where he has provided support for many students, staff and parents. His last day at Bellerive Primary will be Tuesday 25th September. The Grade 5/6 Spelling Bee will commence this week on Thursday with a spelling quiz for the 33 students who have entered the competition. From this quiz, the top 20 students will then participate in 4 semi-finals next Tuesday in front of Grade 3-6 students. The grand final between 4 students will be held at the assembly on Friday 10th August. Please note that this assembly on August 10th, will commence at the earlier time of 2:00pm. Yesterday the breakfast crew from radio station HOFM visited our school to promote the Apple for a Teacher competition which is currently running. Our Grade 3/4 classes were a part of this promotion where our visitors gave a brief talk about the competition and left us with 5 boxes of apples As part of our school history celebrations this year our school will be providing a variety of commemorative items some free and some for sale. All students have received a free pencil. In addition 175th anniversary mugs are now on sale at the school office at a cost of $5.00 per unit or 6 for $25.00. I would like to thank Cassie Groves for designing the pencils and mugs and Jonathan Eadie for the printing of them. The photo to the side highlights our oldest and youngest students in 2018 at Bellerive Primary School, showcasing the pencils and mugs-laura & Oliver (Grade 6); Lily and Angus (Kindergarten).

A reminder to parents of Grade 3,4 and 5 students that the school swimming program commences on Monday 6th August for all students in these year levels. Students should be ready for lessons by having bathers under the school uniform and by having a school cap matching the colour of their house team. The next School Association meeting will be held on Tuesday 7th August at 5.30 p.m. and all parents are most welcome to attend. I would like to acknowledge all the great work undertaken by our Quiz Night organising committee and encourage all parents to consider forming a table of 8 and supporting the raffle. All families will be receiving raffle tickets today to purchase if they wish to be in the draw for some fabulous prizes. Congratulations to Billy M from Grade 5/6 WP, for gaining selection in the Tasmanian Level 6 gymnastics team participating in the National Club Championships in September. On Wednesday 22nd August our school will be combining our annual Book Parade and also Grandparents Day. The Parade will commence at 9.00a.m. and journey around the local community as in past years. This week s school photo highlights the old Inn, which stood on Cambridge Road, where our bottom car park is located. This building later became a residence and the photo shows one of our former students Judith Potter, in the foreground. The significance of the building is that it was knocked down when the land was cleared for Bellerive Primary School. The sandstone from the building was initially used as a retaining wall for our netball courts. The stones were then relocated for use in the Middle Playground area and before being located in our Middle Playground Steven Hay Principal Launching Into Learning Bellerive Term 3 Program 2nd August 9th August Bears (BYO Teddy Bear) 16 August 5 Little Speckled Frogs Mrs Anna Sander Mrs Louise Curtain Mrs Sam Arnold Kinder Teacher B4 Co-ordinator B4
