HUTT INTERMEDIATE WEEKLY TE KURA WAENGANUI O AWA KAIRANGI 14 th April 2016 PRINCIPAL S COMMENT I would like to sincerely congratulate Camryn Morresey and Joel Tetava on their appointment as Head Girl and Head Boy, and Greta Burchell and Dexter Go as Deputy Head Girl and Boy for 2016. The announcement was made at assembly yesterday. The rousing reception they received proves they are a popular choice for these leadership roles. I would like to acknowledge the fantastic help that we received from our community at our recent Year 7 and 8 camps. Parents and caregivers went above and beyond the call of duty running activities and ensuring that the children had a safe and happy time. Our camps were hugely successful and would not have gone ahead without parental support. We cannot thank you enough. We appreciate that many parents gave up a week of their time, and took leave from their jobs and their families to attend camps. We hope you all enjoyed your time and have fully recovered from your experience without too many extra grey hairs! It was great to see such a good turnout at Teacher / Parent Conferences this week and to get a chance to meet many of you. Term 1 is all but over and I am sure the students are ready for a good break. I hope you get some quality and relaxing time with your family over the holidays. If you are going away, travel safely and we look forward to seeing everyone back feeling refreshed on Tuesday 3 rd May. (Monday 2 nd May is Teacher Only Day). The school cross country is being held on the second week back at school (Tuesday 11 th ) Please encourage your children to keep up their fitness training which has started at school over the last couple of weeks. The Trienniel Board of Trustees Elections are underway and by the first week of Term 2 you will receive your Board of Trustee election information and nomination forms in the mail. If you are considering standing for the Board and would like to talk to myself or a current Board member for any further information, please email us at secretary@his.school.nz or ring the office on 939 8800 to make a suitable time. Nominations close at 12 noon on Thursday 20 th May 2016. Have a great holiday Mike Winter Uniform In Terms 2 and 3, students are required to wear winter uniform. For girls, this means either socks and shoes or tights and shoes. For boys, this means socks and shoes. NO sandals. Dear Hutt Intermediate Community, We are a group of students from Hutt Intermediate School called the Student Council. From this we are split into different groups to look at charities to support during the year. W e have decided to support the Ronald McDonald House. We have had an idea to donate a goody bag of essentials for when families have to move suddenly because of an emergency situation that may occur at the hospital. We thought that it could include things like: toiletries, entertainment games (for example, cards and board games), books, food and snacks - chips, muesli, crackers, chocolate, microwave meals, bottled water, coffee/tea, and DVDs (various ages). We have provided a poster of some things that would really help to make up these goody bags. If you have any donations, please drop these off in H11. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact Chrissy Laiman the teacher in charge of the Student Council, at chrissyl@his.school.nz If you are able to help us in any way we would really appreciate your support. Kind regards, Shandin, Elsie, Camryn, Mia, Greta, Dexter, Maaka and Elliot Hutt Intermediate School Student Council Group
