Educating for Life SACRED HEART PRIMARY SCHOOL Issue No 16 NEWSLETTER 16 October 2014 Thinking to Learn Learning to Think Prayer for Wisdom Dear God, You have given each one of us many gifts. Please help us use them wisely For the benefit of others Camp Australia OSHC 0401188896 Parish Priest Fr John Magri - Ph. 9568 1206 Planning for 2015 is underway: Dear Parents, Principal Mr Brian Martin 2 Mora Avenue Oakleigh 3166 Telephone 8574 4500 Fax 8574 4555 Email: principal@shoaklegh.catholic.edu.au Website: www.shoakleigh.catholic.edu.au Email: office@shoakleigh.catholic.edu.au Each year the School Consultative Committee, after consideration of all factors, sets about the task of determining what it believes to be the most appropriate structure for the following year given our enrolments, staffing, educational philosophy & work practices and most importantly the needs of the children. Enrolments will remain fairly constant from our August census figure of 308 to 304 students for 2015. On this basis the structure will be as follows: Proposed School Structure 2015 No Year Anticipated Class Average 2 Foundation Classes 22 children 3 Year 1/2 Classes 29 children 4 Year 3/4 Classes 24 children 3 Year 5/6 Classes 28 children Total anticipated enrolment = 311 Decisions regarding Class Placement of Students will soon be underway for next year. Please note that the school is well aware of the individual needs of each child and will consider these accordingly in class placement. Classes are re-grouped each year and students are mixed carefully taking into account a fair distribution of gender, academic ability, individual, social, emotional and behavioural needs and students who would benefit by being kept together or separated. Concerns already presented to teachers and the principal will also be taken into consideration. If parents have any concerns regarding the class placement of their child for next year these should be made in writing prior to Friday 24 October and addressed to the Principal. It is not appropriate to approach teachers or any other staff member regarding these matters. Requests should only be made in exceptional circumstances and not on an annual basis. Parents must provide sound educational reasons to support their request. Personal requests for specific teachers will not normally be considered. While requests will be seriously considered, they may not be able to be granted. There is a long, arduous, professional, non-emotive process to make this selection so as to ensure the best learning environment for each child. Ultimately the final decision for placement of students rests with the principal. I propose to advise you of teachers for next year by late November. Following this we will prepare class lists for 2015. Parents will be advised of classes for next year with their child's report, which will be available on Tuesday 16 December. An orientation morning for next year's classes will also be held on Tuesday 16 December from 9:00am to 11:00am. Once announced, classes for next year are final and changes will only be made in exceptional circumstances. Regards Brian Martin Principal School Closure Day - Monday 3 November 2014 Expression of Interest required to be given to Camp Australia for Student care on this day. Please contact Jacqui White on 0401 188 896 or call into Before or After School Care to register your interest. 1

A new creative photo display by all staff is now on show in the school foyer. It is aimed at connecting visitors to staff and to highlight that we are a welcoming school. The display reflects our personalities in an artistic way and shows that we are a family friendly, student centred school. Thanks to Fran Frederic (Visual Arts Teacher) for her guidance in the overseeing of this project.
