Westlake Recreation Newsletter Dennis Clough, Mayor Fall 2017 Coed Youth Flag Football Clinic Ages 6-10 Bob DeMinico, Director Flag Football is the perfect introduction to America s Game. Campers learn skills on both sides of the football including the core components of passing, catching and defense all presented in a fun, positive environment. This clinic is taught by Skyhawks and the program will end with a Skyhawks Super bowl. The value of goals, knowledge and positive attitude are taught. Mondays/Wednesdays 5:30-6:15pm 9/18 10/18 10/23 11/22 11/27 1/3/18 $50 Member/$60 NonMember Karate Ages 6 and older Students study an art representing several martial art systems including Kajukenpo, Chinese Kenpo, Judo and Japanese Karate. Each week will focus on the basic skills needed to play. Players will be given instruction for ½ hour and then play a mini game for the other ½ hour. 9/10-10/15 (Held outside) Sundays 11/5-12/17 (Held inside gym) Sundays $45 Members/$55 Non Member Newsletter 1 Skyhawks Volleyball Ages 6-12 All aspects of volleyball are taught through drills and exercises that focus on passing, setting, hitting and serving. This co-ed program is designed for the beginning and intermediate player. Game speed drills and daily scrimmages will help with player development. Thursdays 9/21 10/26 6:30-7:30pm $99 Member/$109 Non Member Pre K Sports Fitness, Sports and Fun Ages 3-5 This fun, non-competitive fitness and sports class is for your pre-school aged child. We focus on moving our body, coordination and beginning strength to build a strong foundation. Basic sports skills are taught on how to play to give confidence to your child. 9/20-10/25 Wednesdays 1:00-1:30pm 11/1-12/13 Wednesdays 1:00-1:30pm $50 Member/$60 Non Member

Youth Basketball Leagues Grades 1-8 This program is open to any child who lives or goes to school in the city of Westlake or is a current member of the Westlake Recreation Department. Programs are designed to instruct youngsters in the fundamentals of the game of basketball. Games are for fun and allow the youngster to experience the thrills of playing basketball in a game situation. Any child who participates on a CYO, Travel or Interscholastic team may not participate in this league. Requests to be on certain teams or to play with a friend will not be honored. Practices will be held at the Rec Center and some may be held at a school facility. Register by Sunday, October 22nd Practices will be held once a week starting the week of 11/13. Games will be played on Saturdays from 12/16-3/3. Separate divisions for Boys 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8 and Girls 1/2, 3/4, 7/8. VOLUNTEER COACHES ARE NEEDED FOR ALL DIVISIONS. Head coaches will receive a $20 credit and Assistant Coaches will receive a $10 credit at the conclusion of the season. Coaches must attend the MANDATORY coaches meeting: Boys Tuesday, Nov. 1 st Girls Wednesday, Nov. 22 nd Grades 1/2 6:00pm Grades 1/2 6:00pm Grades 3/4 6:45pm Grades 3/4 6:45pm Grades 5/6 7:30pm Grades 5/6 7:30pm Grades 7/8 8:15pm $75 Member/$85 Resident ------ Receive a $10 discount for additional child/children Demon Shooting and Skills Clinic Grades 3-8 Westlake High School Varsity Boy s coach Shawn Hood will help improve your shot and game skills with this fundamentally taught clinic. Get ready for your upcoming season while working on dribbling, passing and shooting. 9/9-10/1 Saturdays Grades 3-5 1-2pm Grades 6-8 2-3pm $40 Member/$50 Non Member High School Boys Basketball League Grades 9-12 This league plays games on Saturday afternoons. There is no practice for these teams. The season consists of 10 regular games and then a single elimination playoff. Each team consists of an equal amount of players from each grade level. Games begin on Dec 16th. Playoffs are held March 18 th. DEADLINE TO REGISTER: November 19 th Saturday, Dec 9th t shirt/game schedule pickup Scrimmage time 8:30-10am $75 Member/$85 Resident Junior Demons Skills Camp Grades K-2 Westlake High School Varsity Boy s coach Shawn Hood want to teach your child the mechanics of being a great basketball player. Children will learn to dribble, pass and shoot properly. Coach Hood s years of experience will make this a fun and rewarding session. 9/9-10/1 Saturdays 12pm- 1pm $40 Member/$50 Non Member Youth Golf Class Ages 8-12 Class will be held at Meadowood Golf clubhouse. Focuses on the basics of the game. Includes proper grip technique on all the clubs, putting lessons and a special emphasis on short game around the green. Rules and proper course etiquette will be taught. 12/26-12/28 Tuesday Thursday 11-11:45am or 12-12:45pm $20 Resident/$30 Non Resident Girls Basketball League Grades 7-9 We compete in the West Suburban Youth Basketball League with other cities including Middleburgh Hts,Berea and Brookpark. Teams are made up of girls in grades 7-9 who are not playing on school teams. We will have practice once a week and play games on Saturdays. A total of 10 games are played at various sites including Westlake Rec. Practices start in November and continue till early March.
