Preface This solutions manual is intended to help instructors and TAs teaching a course based on Computer Organization and Architecture: Themes and Variations. I have provided solutions to the problems. Some of these problems will be answered more fully than others. Note that not all questions can be answered by reference to the text alone. Students will sometimes have to use other material (e.g., material on the accompanying website that covers computer history or the Web itself). I have done this on purpose. In real life, there is never a textbook that answers all your questions. It is important to appreciate that the answer to a question may not be the only answer. Sometimes I have provided only one possible solution; a student s answer may be different but just as correct or even better.
