Packed lunch for each day PT kit ( PT Shorts, PT shirt, Blue socks, Gum guard and shin pads) N.B Shin pads are compulsory Hockey sticks Monday 07 July 2014 Integrated day Grade 4: Hockey trials and Tennis Grade 4 boys who will not be playing hockey for St Benedict s will participate in Tennis during the integrated day sessions. Dress code for integrated day and afternoon hockey practices: St Benedict s PT uniform, long royal blue socks with no stripes, shin pads and a gum guard will be compulsory for all boys to wear during all hockey practice sessions and matches. Boys will not be allowed to partake in any hockey activities without these items. Hockey safety: All Bennies hockey boys from Grade 3 7 will not be allowed to play hockey and swing their hockey sticks around during school time or before practices without the coaches supervision as accidents might occur. Hockey boys will also not be allowed on the astro hockey field before scheduled hockey practice times or without the presence of the hockey coaches. Afternoon practices Grade 3 Hockey trials will be held on the hockey astro turf field, 14h15 15h15. Grade 3 hockey boys and Cross Country boys will be fetched by their coaches from the Junior Prep School at 14h00. The Cross Country boys who finished their hockey practice will be accompanied by their coaches and commence with their Cross Country practice directly after the hockey practice. It is very important for all Grade 3 boys who wish to play for the School hockey teams to attend each and every trial session to qualify for team selection. If a boy cannot attend a practice session due to medical conditions or any reason whatsoever a proper note signed by his parents must be handed in to Mr. Flude. Dress code for hockey practices and matches; St Benedict s PT kit, Long Royal blue socks with no stripes and shin pads must be worn (no shin pads, no play!). It will also be compulsory for hockey boys to wear a Gum guard when participating in hockey activities. We would like to encourage boys to bring along their own hockey sticks, but if a boy does not have a hockey stick, the School will provide him with one. Grade 3 hockey matches will be played over a quarter hockey field, 7-A-side. Teams will be selected as follows as per the Independent boys Schools sport regulations; U/9 A, U/9 B A and U/9 mixed ability teams. Cross Country practice will be held for all Top 25 Cross Country boys from Grade 3 7 on the College fields next to the hockey astro turf field, 15h15 16h00. It will be compulsory for all boys who qualified under the top 25 positions at the Inter House Cross Country event to attend all scheduled afternoon practice sessions. If a boys cannot attend a practice session due to medical conditions or any reason whatsoever a letter signed by his parents must be handed in to Mr. Muller. If a boy has not made the Top 25 list during the Inter House Cross Country event and is he still keen and determined to improve, he is more than welcome to also attend the Cross Country practices to improve his fitness levels and improve his running position/time. Friday 11 July 2014 Junior and Senior Inter house soccer The Junior and Senior Inter House soccer will take place from 10h00 12h00 on the College hockey fields. The Junior section will consist out of two teams per house of 14 players per team (Grade 4 and 5 boys). The senior section will consist out of two teams per house of 14 players per team (Grade 6 & 7 boys).
RULES: Normal rules of soccer will be applied except there will be NO off-sides. The format will be 7-a side (1 goal keeper and 6 out). A maximum of 14 players per team. Rolling substitutes allowed. Points: 3 for a win, 1 for a draw. There will be no finals the winners will be decided after all the games with points determining the winning house. The Juniors will be playing on the Astroturf which will be split in 4. (please note you MUST wear takkies and NOT soccer boots) The Seniors will play on the grass hockey fields which will be split up to create 4 fields. The games will be 10 minutes long with a 5 minute break in between games to allow for rest as each team will be playing every game. The U/9 & U/10 hockey teams will be divided as follows; U/9 A, B & mixed ability teams, U/10 A, B & mixed ability teams. These teams will follow the 7-A-side hockey format where they play over a quarter of a hockey field. The U/11 age group will play the normal 11-A-side hockey format over a full hockey field. The U/11 B and C hockey team will follow the 8-A-side hockey format and the rest of the U/11 boys will also follow the 8-A-side format and play as mixed ability teams. The U/12 & U/13 hockey age groups will be separated as per the Independent School sporting structures. The U/12 & U/13 teams will be divided as follows; U/13 A, U/13 B, U/13 C, U/12 A, U/12 B & U/12 C. The only exception will be made where a U/12 boy is good enough to play for the 1ST (U/13 A). All boys from Grade 3 7 who will be participating in Hockey must always wear a gum guard and shin pads to all practices and matches. All hockey boys from Grade 3 7 will not be allowed to practice, play and swing their hockey sticks around prior to their practice as careless injuries may occur. Hockey boys will only be allowed onto the training field to start their hockey training upon arrival of their hockey coaches. It will be compulsory for all boys who will be playing hockey to attend all afternoon training sessions. Register will be taken by the coaches at each and every afternoon practices session. Boys who do not attend weekly afternoon practice sessions will not be eligible for team selection and match participation. If a boy cannot attend a weekly afternoon training session due to illness, any medical situation or any reason whatsoever a proper letter signed by his parents must be submitted to Mr. Flude. All boys from grade 3 7 will participate in either hockey or Tennis during the Integrated day sports sessions. All boys will be encouraged to participate in the pre- season hockey training during the Integrated day sessions. Hockey will be the main sporting code for this period. Congratulations; Congratulations to the 1 ST Rugby team and the U/10 A rugby team for the great team achievements at the recent Golden Lions B2 league finals held at Florida. The 1 ST rugby team made it to the finals where they beat Laerskool Gerrit Marritz 15 7. The U/10 A rugby team narrowly lost their final match against Laerskool Delville 5 12. These boys displayed incredible team work, dedication and fought very hard until the last minute. Well done to all these boys and their coaches.
