SINGLE POINT OF CONTACT (SPOC): REFERRAL TO ALCOHOL AND DRUG TREATMENT IN LONDON Published in August 2018 PHE has worked with Local Authority drug and alcohol commissioners to develop a current list of working SPOCs in order to assist frontline teams and agencies in making direct referrals to local substance misuse treatment agencies. Referrals should initially be made by telephone to the number listed. The SPOC provider will be part of the local treatment system, and is expected to be able to make an appointment for the client over the phone there and then, giving the date, time and address of an appointment for a face to face assessment for drug and/or alcohol treatment. The list also indicates whether Local Authorities have different SPOCs for drugs and alcohol or an integrated SPOC. Agencies will wish to ensure that there are electronic referral systems and local information sharing agreements in place (where appropriate), to facilitate effective referral and joint working.
