CHOOSE YOUR COURSES CAREFULLY! Don t choose classes based upon what your friends are taking or the teacher you think you will get! We build the master schedule on your requests. Example: If we have 75 people request Health, we would create 3 sections. If in August, 25 people who were planning on taking health online in the summer changed their mind and now needed to fit health into their schedule, we would NOT have the room to accommodate them. Schedule changes only during the first 5 days! Remember how crazy it is to make a schedule change? Students who consider carefully make less schedule changes at the beginning of the semester! Consider your honors courses. Administration will need to approve any level change (moving from honors to regular classes) once school starts.
ONLINE ENROLLMENT The online enrollment window is open Friday, Jan. 5 th - Friday, Jan. 19 th. You will need to enter your requests using the Synergy directions. We will be checking your enrollment requests, transcripts, and what you turn into us and enter online. Counselors will meet with you individually during your English classes in late January to answer questions and verify your enrollment choices.
COLLEGE CREDIT OPTIONS IN HIGH SCHOOL AP & Concurrent Credit Courses
AP (ADVANCED PLACEMENT) COURSES Students who take these courses may choose to take the National AP Exam in May to earn college credit. They are scored by the Educational Testing Services with a 5 being the highest score. Colleges/Universities will usually award some type of credit for AP examination grades of 4 or 5 with some schools issuing credit for scores of 3 or better. Consult each college s AP policies to know how a particular AP test score will be accepted.
CONCURRENT CREDIT (JCCC & BAKER) Students may earn college credit when taking these BV West courses*. A student MUST complete a JCCC or Baker U application, assessments if required, and provide payment for tuition in the first few weeks of class. Honors Spanish 4 AP Computer Science A AP Spanish Language AP US History Honors French 4 AP US Gov. & Politics Advanced Algebra AP Psychology Honors Pre-Calculus & Trig AP Macroeconomics AP Calculus AB AP English Literature AP Calculus BC AP Biology AP Statistics AP Chemistry Hon. JAVA Programming AP Physics 1 *Future school years may bring some changes to our college credit offerings. We will let you know of any changes as we receive updated information.
HOW DOES AP CREDIT AND COLLEGE NOW DIFFER? Questions... AP Credit College Now Credit How much does it Cost? When is enrollment? How is Credit Awarded? $106 per test $93 per credit hour Signup in March, test in May at the end of the course AP test results, Score 4-5 (Varies by college) Start of the semester C or better guarantees credit College Transferability? Accepted nationally at most colleges including many highly selective schools Accepted regionally and by many national universities AP Transfer Info: https://apstudent.collegeboard.org/creditandplacement/ search-credit-policies
WHICH IS BEST FOR YOU? ONE AND DONE AP Exams are given during a two week period each May. You have one time to take the test over everything you covered in your AP class all year. Credit is awarded based on your test score & varies from college to college THE SURE THING The Concurrent Credit option (JCCC & Baker) is for students who work hard in their classes and usually earn As or Bs. The grade you earn in the BVW class is the grade you earn on your college transcript. Concurrent credits may not be accepted at highly selective universities
