Lake-Sumter Community College Course Syllabus Course / Prefix Number REA 0017 Course Title: College Prep Reading I CRN: 20398 Credit: 4 Term: Spring 2012 Course Catalog Description: This course provides reading instruction to those students who test into the course based on a Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) for reading or for those students who have completed the REA 0007 course with a grade of C or higher in preparation for passing the College Preparatory Reading Test (CPRT), a comprehensive exit test for reading. This course is designed to build vocabulary skills, literal and critical comprehension skills, and successful reading strategies. REA 0017 is a skills course, and the student must be present to participate. It is mandatory, therefore, that ALL TARDIES AND ABSENCES BE MADE UP by attending an additional reading section taught by the same instructor. The failure to make up any absence or tardy attendance will result in a grade reduction of 3.3% per absence. Course Calendar: This is a fully seated course that meets from 5:30 pm to 9:50 pm on the South Lake Campus Room 126. Dates for text and online assignments, tests, quizzes, presentations, and academic skills activities are noted on calendar that follows. Classroom Rules and Policies: On time class attendance is mandatory. Text book and online assignments are due at the beginning of class on the assignment stated in syllabus.
