Cambridge International Guide to Results Despatch March 2018 Exams officers This guide tells you everything you need to know about the materials in the Cambridge Results Despatch for the qualifications listed below. It also gives you information about the grades and results for the ICE and AICE Diploma, enquiries about results and certificates. International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE ) International Certificate of Education (ICE) General Certificate of Education Advanced Subsidiary Level (GCE AS Level) and Advanced Level (GCE A Level) Advanced International Certificate of Education Diploma (AICE Diploma) What is the Cambridge International results despatch? The Cambridge results despatch contains the information you need about the March 2018 series results. The hard copy results reports table on pages 2 3 lists the documents in this despatch, and tells you what you need to do with them. What do we mean by PENDING and NO RESULT? You may see these terms on your results reports: 'PENDING or Q' means the result cannot be issued at present and will follow in due course 'NO RESULT or X' means one of the following: We were notified the candidate was absent or withdrawn from one or more components of the exam and so is not eligible for the award of a grade. There is no record of a mark in one or more components of the exam for the candidate and we were not notified they were absent or withdrawn. Therefore, they are not eligible for the award of a grade. We disqualified the candidate. Where this is the case we will have already contacted you explaining the reasons for the disqualification. Cambridge Guide to Results Despatch March 2018 1

Hard copy results reports Item Description What do I do with it? Statement of results A document for each individual candidate giving details of the syllabuses they entered and the syllabus grades they have been awarded. Explanatory notes are printed on the statement of results. They explain what the qualification and syllabus grades mean. Statements of results are not certificates and show provisional results. They may not be accepted by universities or other public bodies as proof of a candidate s results. We reserve the right to update any of the information issued on a statement of results before centres receive certificates. Results for IGCSE and ICE are combined on a single statement of results. AS Level, A Level and AICE are combined on a single statement of results. Centres should distribute statements of results to their candidates as soon as possible. If you find any errors on your statement of results, or they have been damaged or altered, please contact our Customer Services team at info@cambridgeinternational.org immediately. Syllabus results and component grades Results broadsheet A list for each syllabus option, showing candidates results and component grades. The list enables teachers to compare the standards reached by candidates in the individual components of each syllabus. The component grades will not always correspond exactly to the overall syllabus grade. This is because the final syllabus grade is derived from an aggregation (combination) of the candidate s marks and not the component grades. The results for private candidates are shown separately and are not included in the summary section of the document. A document showing the syllabus grades of all candidates. Private candidates syllabus grades are shown separately. Pass these lists onto the relevant teaching staff. Tell teaching staff they are for their information only, and must not be made public or shared with prospective employers, universities, or authorities responsible for admissions to universities or other institutions of higher education. Pass these onto relevant staff in your centre. Tell staff they are for their information only and must not be made public or shared with prospective employers, universities, or authorities responsible for admissions to universities or other institutions of higher education. Moderation adjustments summary report This report is only provided if your centre has candidates entered for internally assessed components A summary by qualification, for each internally assessed component, to show the adjustments we have made to your internally assessed marks. No Adjustment means we have not altered your marks. Adjustments are made by a Cambridge International moderator and then approved by the Principal Coursework Moderator. We make adjustments to the marks submitted by you and not to the marks that have been through the weighting * process. Therefore, please take care when interpreting the adjustments and pay attention to the maximum mark for each component as it influences the significance of the adjustment. For example, an adjustment of +2 for a component with a maximum mark of 40 is more significant than an adjustment of +6 for a component with a maximum mark of 150. The adjustments are shown next to the range of marks for the component. For example, an adjustment of -1 next to the mark range 26 45 means we reduced marks between 26 and 45 by one, and an adjustment of +3 next to the mark range 0 19 means we increased the marks between 0 19 by three. We cannot reduce marks below zero or increase them above the maximum mark of the component. Pass these lists onto the relevant teaching staff. Tell teaching staff that they are for their information only and must not be made public or shared with prospective employers, universities, or authorities responsible for admissions to universities or other institutions of higher education. Report to a centre on moderation This report is only provided if your centre has candidates entered for internally assessed components * Weighting is a way of giving relative importance to different components of an exam. A brief report (Form CW/C/REP) on the moderation of each internally assessed component is supplied for teaching staff. We only include written comments in the report where necessary. Pass these reports onto the relevant teaching staff. Cambridge Guide to Results Despatch March 2018 3

Online results reports Item Description What do I do with it? Provisional results information You can download individual candidate provisional results information from CIE Direct after the official date and time for results release. A document for each individual candidate giving details of the syllabuses they entered and the syllabus grades they have been awarded. Statements of results are not certificates and show provisional results. They may not be accepted by universities or other public bodies as proof of a candidate s results. We reserve the right to update any of the information issued on a statement of results before centres receive certificates. Provisional statements of results are downloaded from CIE Direct and the candidate results data appears in qualification order by candidate number. Any candidate taking more than one qualification will appear at the end of each set of qualification data. Centres should distribute statements of results to their candidates as soon as possible. Results broadsheet You can download this document from CIE Direct after the official date and time for results release. Components marks report A document showing the syllabus grades of all candidates. Private candidates syllabus grades are shown separately. A document for teaching staff showing how candidates have performed across the different components for each syllabus. They allow teaching staff to develop a deeper understanding of a candidate's exam performance. Pass these onto the relevant centre staff. Tell staff that they are for their information only and must not be made public or shared with prospective employers, universities, or authorities responsible for admissions to universities or other institutions of higher education. Pass these lists onto the relevant teaching staff. Cambridge Guide to Results Despatch March 2018 4

How are syllabus grades reported on statements of results? Qualification Grade reporting IGCSE A*(a*), A(a), B(b), C(c), D(d), E(e), F(f) or G(g). A*(a*) is the highest grade and G(g) the lowest. UNGRADED shows that the candidate failed to reach the standard required for Grade G(g). IGCSE language syllabuses For some language syllabuses, separate oral endorsement grades are reported on a scale of 1(ONE) to 5(FIVE), 1(ONE) being the highest and 5(FIVE) the lowest. Candidates who fail to reach the standard required for grade 5(FIVE) will have nothing reported on the statements of results or certificates Endorsement grades are only shown on certificates where the overall syllabus grade in the language concerned is Grade G(g) or better. ICE ICE statements of results are issued to candidates who have entered for ICE. Distinction, merit and pass will be awarded to candidates who meet the requirements of ICE. The statement of results shows the ICE outcome and the individual syllabus results for IGCSE. AS Level & A Level Only individual syllabus results for the final series are reported on this statement of results. Therefore, not all of the counting syllabuses used to determine the ICE award are shown for candidates taking ICE over more than one series. The award rules for the ICE are at the end of this document. AS Level - a(a), b(b), c(c), d(d) or e(e). a(a) is the highest and e(e) the lowest. A Level - A*(a*), A(a), B(b), C(c), D(d) or E(e). A*(a*) is the highest grade and E(e) the lowest. In some A Levels, a candidate whose overall performance in the syllabus falls short of the standard required for Grade E(e) will be awarded a AS Level Grade a(a), b(b), c(c), d(d) or e(e), if their performance is good enough in the components that constitute a AS Level. UNGRADED shows that the candidate failed to reach the standard required for Grade e(e) for AS Level and Grade E(e) for A Level. AICE Diploma AICE Diploma statements of results are issued to candidates who have entered for the AICE Diploma. Distinction, merit or pass will be awarded to candidates who meet the requirements of the AICE Diploma. An aggregate of the total points scored will also be shown. To determine the award, each syllabus which may count towards the diploma is allocated points according to the grade achieved. Where a candidate has more than the required number of syllabuses which count towards the diploma, those which have been used to determine the AICE Diploma award are shown with an asterisk (*). Only individual syllabus results for the final series are reported on this statement of results. Therefore, not all of the syllabuses used to determine the AICE Diploma award are shown for candidates taking the AICE Diploma over more than one series. No Award shows the candidate failed to reach the standard required for the AICE Diploma. An aggregate total points score is not shown. The award rules for the AICE Diploma are detailed at the end of this document. Cambridge Guide to Results Despatch March 2018 5
