Introduction Desire2Learn is an excellent tool for instructors. This document has been developed to introduce you to the Assignment Grader app. This app will allow you use your ipad to grade items that have been submitted to your Desire2Learn dropbox. The various sections presented on the following pages will help you to learn how to use the different features within the application. Objectives The following learning objectives are covered in this document: Knowing how to install the app. Having the ability to access dropboxes. Understanding the various views. Installing the App The following explains how to install the Assignment Grader app on your ipad. 1. Go to the App Store on your ipad. 2. At the App Store, enter the following search term: Desire2Learn Assignment Grader 3. The search result should appear as indicated in Figure 1. Touch the Install button to install the app on your device. Figure 1 Accessing Your Dropboxes The following explains how to open the app on your ipad so that you can access your dropboxes. 1. Touch the Grader icon on your ipad to open the app. 2. Enter the following URL, as indicated in Figure 2: kennesaw.view.usg.edu 3. Touch the Connect button (see Figure 2). Figure 2 5
4. Next, enter your Username and Password. Then, touch the Log in button (see Figure 3). Figure 3 5. If a window appears asking if Desire2Learn can access your information, touch the Continue button. 6. Your dropboxes will appear on your screen (see Figure 4). Figure 4 6
Views There are three different ways to view the dropbox with this app (see Figure 5). The following explains these three views: Course view Your courses will be arranged alphabetically. Due Date view Your assignments will be sorted by the earliest due date. Ungraded view Your assignments will be sorted by the amount of submissions that have not been graded yet. Grading an Assignment The following explains how to grade an assignment. Figure 5 1. Touch the dropbox folder that contains the assignments that you want to grade (see Figure 6). Figure 6 7
2. The student submissions will appear on your device. Near the bottom of the screen, you will see four views (see Figure 7). The following explains the four different views. a. Ungraded Sorts assignments that have not been graded at the top of the list. b. Name Sorts the student names in alphabetical order. c. Date Sorts assignments so that the most recent submissions appear at the top. d. Grade Sorts assignments from the highest grade to the lowest grade. Student Submissions Figure 7 3. Touch the name of a student in the list so that you can access the assignment that he or she submitted (see Figure 7). 4. The assignment will appear on the screen. To provide feedback to the student, touch the arrow indicated in Figure 8. Figure 8 8
5. Enter the Score and Feedback (see Figure 9). NOTE: If you are using a Rubric, touch the Rubric, complete the Rubric, and touch the Save and Record button (the Rubric will automatically insert the Score and Feedback for you). 6. Touch the Users arrow (see Figure 10) to return to the list of students. Figure 10 7. To grade another student s assignment, follow steps 3-6 above. 8. When you have graded all of the assignments, touch the Synch button (see Figure 11). Figure 11 9. When the publishing process is complete, the assignments will display the Graded icon (see Figure 12) indicating that your feedback has been published in the Desire2Learn system (you will notice in Figure 11 that the assignments display the Not Published icon). 10. Touch the All Folders icon to return to the list of Dropbox folders (see Figure 13). Figure 13 Working Offline The following explains how to download student assignments so that they can be graded on your device when you do not have access to wireless coverage. Downloading the Assignments The following explains how to download the assignments in a specific folder to your mobile device so that they can be graded when you do not have access to wireless coverage. 1. Touch the Folder that contains the assignments that you want to grade (see Figure 14). 2. Touch the Download icon (see Figure 16). Figure 16 3. Touch the All Folders icon to return to the list of Dropbox folders (see Figure 17). Figure 17 NOTE: It takes a long time for the assignments to download to your device. It is recommended that after you have completed Step 3 above, leave your device on and in the wireless coverage area for an hour at least. Grading the Assignments Offline The following explains how to grade assignments that have been downloaded to your device when you are in an area without wireless coverage. 1. Touch the Downloaded button near the bottom of your screen (see Figure 18). Figure 18 2. Touch the folder that contains the assignments that you want to grade (see Figure 19). Figure 19 12
3. Touch the assignment that you want to grade (see Figure 20). Figure 20 4. The assignment will appear on your screen. Touch the arrow indicated in Figure 21 to provide feedback. Figure 21 13

6. Touch the Users button (see Figure 23) to return to the list of users. Figure 23 7. To grade another student s assignment, follow steps 3-6 above. 8. When you are finished, touch the All Folders button to return to the list of your dropbox folders (see Figure 24). Figure 24 9. Figure 25 Uploading Grades When you again have access to wireless coverage, you will need to upload the grades from your device to Desire2Learn. This process is explained in the following. 1. Touch All Folders near the bottom of your screen to see all of the folders (see Figure 26). Figure 26 15
2. Touch the dropbox folder that contains the graded assignments that you want to upload to Desire2Learn (see Figure 27). Figure 27 3. Touch the Synch button to upload the grades to Desire2Learn (see Figure 28). Figure 28 16
4. It may take several minutes to upload all of the grades to Desire2Learn. Upon completion, you will see the Graded icon (see Figure 29) indicating that the grades have been published. Figure 29 5. When you are finished, touch the All Folders button to return to the list of your dropbox folders (see Figure 30). Figure 30 6.
