Timeline Options Assembly 6 th of January Parents and options evening Thursday 12 th January Options forms completed and returned by Monday 16 th of January All options confirmed by end of March Start of new timetable June 19 th

What subjects are compulsory? Compulsory (Core) subjects: 1. English 2. English Literature 3. Maths 4. Science (2 GCSEs, can be chosen as an option for 3 GCSEs) 5. ICT (Vocational) These will lead to GCSE (or equivalent) qualifications Other Core subjects: 1. PE 2. Ethics These do not lead to qualifications but are part of a balanced education

What are the other subjects? You will then pick FOUR option subjects, based on your strength and preferences. These lead to GCSEs or Technical Awards which open paths to post 16 education. The majority of students will get 10 qualifications.

The qualifications All subjects are taking the new style GCSE in 2019. The main changes are the grades (now 9-1) and the way you are assessed (most coursework has now been removed and replaced by end of year 11 exams only). BTECs and other vocational courses still contain some coursework but they all have an examination as well. These examinations can be taken part way through the year.

The qualifications
