Sri Venkateswara University, established in 1954, is one of the three oldest Universities in Andhra Pradesh. A Brief Note of Directorate of Distance Education, S.V. University: The S.V. University introduced correspondence courses in the year 1972 to extend the frontiers of academic excellence beyond its campus. The Institute of Correspondence courses (ICC) was upgraded as Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) in April 1995 as per the UGC norms. The main objective of DDE is ìreach the unreachedî through Distance Mode. Main Objectives of DDE: a. To provide higher educational opportunities to the people who were deprived of the same earlier. b. To promote professional efficiency for the in-service candidates. c. To meet the challenges of changing needs of the society in a global era. d. To provide wider opportunity to the youth who are not able to join in regular colleges due to various reasons. e. To provide high quality of education with minimum expenditure. About M.Ed. course : The M.Ed. Programme is a two-year programme to benefit teachers who have already completed B.Ed., and are presently working in a recognized school. The purpose of M Ed programme is to prepare quality teacher educators and educational administrators with a global as well as a national vision for education in the modern concept of the 21 st century. Further, it seeks to prepare educational experts capable of scientific method of enquiry and to develop a mutli-dimensional personality which can find solutions to problems relating to the educational sector. The main aim of the M.Ed. Programme through Distance Mode is to facilitate the in- service B. Ed teachers, Educational Policy markers and Educational Administrators to enhance their educational qualifications and professional development. M.Ed, course is a professional programme and, therefore, it focuses on comprehensive and integrated professional development of teachers and other personnel engaged in educational management and administration. The programme is also aimed at developing competencies and skills so that one can share the responsibility of preparing teachers for diverse situations by using a variety of instruments including ICTs. This course is intended to develop in professional areas of concern, knowledge, skills and attitudes relating to how to teach and how to facilitate learning. The other focus areas include the role of teachers in changing global socio-economic concern 5
organization of teacher education in the country, understanding teaching in a comparative perspective and preparing teachers to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Objectives of the M.Ed. (DE) Programme: a. To prepare teachers with knowledge and skills to understand the changing scenario of education with vision and mission. b. To make them understand human behavior and practice the psychological principles in teaching, learning and evaluation. c. To orient teachers towards research in education. d. To enable them to use the statistical techniques appropriate to the context. e. To orient teachers with theory and practice of educational guidance and counseling. f. To equip teachers with knowledge and skills to apply appropriate techniques of measurement and evaluation in educational context. g. To empower teachers with leadership qualities. h. To promote professional efficiency for in-service teachers. ADMISSION PROCEDURE OF THE M.Ed. COURSE I. Eligibility Criteria: a) The candidate for admission into M.Ed course should have passed B.Ed. with a minimum of 55% marks from S.V. University or any other University recognized by S.V.U. as equivalent thereto. b) The candidate must be in-service with B.Ed degree and working in Government / recognized schools, OR working in educational sectors. (i) as SGT / School Assistant/ TGT/ PGT, or (ii) as Lecturer working in Colleges/ DIETs /SCERTs,or (iii)administrators as PEO /MEO/ Dy.DEO /DEO / Principals. c) The candidate must have a bonafide experience of at least two years after acquiring B.Ed degree, as on 31-05-2014. II. Jurisdiction: Admission is restricted to in-service teacher candidates and academic Administrators/lecturers, who are working in Andhra Pradesh State with a bonafide minimum teaching/administrative experience of two years in the government / government recognized Primary / Secondary / Higher Secondary Schools / Colleges / Educational organizations as on the date specified in admission notification. The Teachers working in S.V. University region 6
(Chittoor, Kadapa, Nellore, Anantapur and Kurnool districts) will be treated as Local candidates, as per their study certificates (or) residence certificate. III.Admission Procedure: a) Admissions shall be made on the basis of length of service of the candidates after obtaining the B.Ed. degree. Two years of service after B.Ed is mandatory, as on 31-05-2014. Note: a) The service certificate has to be signed by the concerned employer in case of applicants belonging to DIETíS / SCERTís / CBSE / KVS / ICSE / similar educational institutions. b) In the case of Teachers working in State Govt./ Local Bodies/ Aided/Private recognized Schools the service certificate has to be signed by the Head of the Institution and counter signed by the MEO / DEO. c) Admission shall be made by selection duly following the rule of reservation in case of Schedule Caste / Schedule Tribe / Backward Class candidates and Women candidates, as per the rules of the S.V. University. d) Centralised admissions shall be made at the Directorate of Distance Education, S.V. University, Tirupati. Candidates have to attend admission counseling at their own expenses. Mere receipt of call letter for admission does not automatically entitle the candidate for admission. e) Fee once paid will not be refunded. f) The decision of the University is final in all matters relating to admissions. IV. STRUCTURE OF THE M.Ed COURSE 1) Duration of the course: a) The duration of the course shall be covering two academic sessions and covering two spells of personal contact programme classes in two summers at a duration of 20 days per academic session. b) Minimum period to complete the course: 2 years (Two summers) c) Maximum period to complete the programme: 5years from date of admission. 2) Number of Seats: 250 (Two Hundred and Fifty Only) Option will be given to choose the study centre at the time of counselling, subject to the availability of seats. 3) Medium of instruction : ENGLISH only 7
4) Tuition Fee: The total fee for the entire course is Rs. 35,000/- which is payable in two instalments excluding the examination fee. The first instalment of tuition fee is Rs. 20,000/- has to be paid at the time of admission. The payment of remaining fee Rs.15,000/- is payable at the commencement of II Academic Session to be notified by the D.D.E. The examination fee has to pay as prescribed by the Controller of Examinations, S.V. University, Tirupati along with the examination application. 5) Personal Contact Programmes: In the first year, there shall be consisting of 150 instructional hours. Each theory paper shall have 30 hours of instruction. Classes shall be arranged for 7 1/2 hours per day for 20 days. In the second year also, there shall be Personal Contact Programme Classes (CPC) for the duration of 20 days for both theory papers and dissertation preparation. Two Personal Contact Programmes each of about 20 days duration will be held during the course of study. Attendance at the Contact Programmes is Compulsory. The CPC will be organised either in summer vacation (or) during Dussera / Pongal vacations. The dates of CPC will be informed later. If the candidate does not attend the CPC classes in a particular year due to any reason, he will be permitted to appear for the examination in next academic year after satisfying all the other formalities. a). The University reserves the right to either to increase or to decrease the number of seats at any program centre / study centre. b). The University reserves the right to add, delete or merge centres, if needed, and also to shift students from one centre to another without notice. c) Candidates have to make their own arrangements for their stay during the period of the contact programmes. d) The candidates will be informed about the centre and dates of Personal Contact Programme Classes after admission. 6) Study Material : The D.D.E. will supply the study material to all the admitted candidates and it will be English medium only. 7) Papers of the course: Adopted the regular course syllabus. The regular 1 st semester papers are adopted in the 1 st year of the course and the 2 nd semester papers and adopted in the 2 nd year. 8

Duration of Theory examination : 3 Hours 1) Dissertation and Viva-voce : Each candidate shall be required to submit a Dissertation in a subject approved by the University. The Dissertation shall be prepared under the guidance of Lecturer / Professor working in SVU M.Ed. study centres, who are in the approved panel of the University. The dissertation is compulsory to all the candidates. The subject proposed for the Dissertation shall be submitted to the D.D.E. for approval at the time of the first contact programme. The D.D.E. shall allot the Research Guide from the study centres, those who are qualified and eligible for guidance. 10) Scheme of Evaluation: a).scheme of evaluation shall be as recommended by the Board of Studies duly approved by the academic senate. There shall be an internal assessment in the form of assignment for each subject / paper for 20 marks and year end examination for 80 marks. There shall be no revaluation provision for internal assessment. b). c). Examinations for the five papers shall be held after the completion of first Academic Session (I year). Examinations for the remaining papers shall be held at the end of the second Academic Session. Dissertation has to be submitted before the commencement of the Viva-Voce Examination The medium of instruction and examinations for M.Ed course is ENGLISH only. 11) Marks qualifying for a pass and class: A candidate shall be declared to have passed M,Ed examination if he/she obtained not less than 40% of total marks on aggregate in each year and not less than 40% in each paper (Paper minimum). Out of 80 marks in theory examination, a candidate has to score 32 out of 80 marks and in total including assignments has to secure 40 % marks in each paper. Failure in submitting the assignments within stipulated time will never be considered for future examinations and will fore go the assignment marks to be added to theory marks for ever. Not withstanding anything contained in the above regulations, in the case of Dissertation and Viva-Voce, a candidate shall be required to obtain not less than marks (50 %) out of 200 marks have to be declared passed in the examination.. 10
Successful candidates shall be placed in three classes on the basis of the aggregate marks secured by them in all subject papers (including dissertation and Viva-Voce examinations) irrespective of the number of appearances taken by the candidate to complete the M.Ed Degree examination through D.D.E., S.V. University. First Class with Distinction : 70% and above First Class : : 60% and above Second Class : : 50% and above and less than 60% Third Class : : 40% and above and less than 50% 12) Study Centres: The following programme Study Centres are identified for M.Ed. Sree Rama College of Education, Thiruchanoor Road, Tirupati. e. S.V. College of Education, R.V.S. Nagar, Chittoor. f. S.B.V.R. College of Education, Badvel, Kadapa (Dist.) g. St Maryís College of Education, Buchireddypalem, Nellore Dist. Apart from D.D.E. (Nodal centre), S.V. University, the Counselling and Contact Programmes will be organized in selected study centres. The candidates can be shifted from one centre to another centre, if the required number of candidates are not admitted in a particular centre. However, the University reserves to right the either increase (or) decrease the number of seats at any programme centre. Note : Any disputes with regard to M.Ed. course should be confined to the jurisdiction of Tirupati court only.
