We are going to do our best to not drop the ball. 5. Do you want to try to take care of the ball with me? ( Yes.) 6. Let s get started! During the activity say: For detailed instructions on how to do the activity see the DVD. 1. All right, let s start passing the ball around the circle. 2. Remember to be careful not to drop it. 3. You are all doing great! 4. Do you know why we are being so careful with the ball today? 5. We are taking care of the ball as we pass it around because God Wants Me To Take Care Of The World. 6. Let s all say that together. God Wants Me To Take Care Of The World. 7. Great! That s what we are learning today. God Wants Me To Take Care Of The World. 8. Now, let s try passing the ball while we say what we are learning. 9. When you get the ball, I want you to say one word of what we are learning. 5

10. For example, you will say, God and pass the ball. The next person will say, Wants. The next person will say, Me. And so on until we have said what we are learning all the way through. 11. Ready? Let s pass the ball again! After the activity say: 1. That was fun taking care of the ball in our game, wasn t it? 2. Today, we are going to learn that there are some ways that we can take care of the world. 3. Let s all say what we are learning together. God Wants Me To Take Care Of The World. Summary: God created everything in our world and He wants us to take care of the World. Let s find out how we can take care of the world right now! Note: If you have chosen to use the optional music, turn it off now. Up Next: Introduction Video 6

What Can I Do? God Wants Me To Take Care Of The World Purpose: This activity will teach the children some ways they can take care of the world. Description: The children will roll a cube and talk about the pictures that show ways they can take care of the world. Materials needed: For this activity, you will need this help sheet and the What Can I Do/Lesson 1 printout from your Lesson Materials CD-ROM. Note: Before class, you will need to assemble the cube. # 1 Note: For optional background music, set your CD player to repeat track 1 on your Upside Down Town Jr. Soundtrack CD. To introduce the activity say: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Do you think you can take care of the world? We can take care of the world when we take care of the things around us - things like plants and flowers. You can also take care of the things around you by turning off the water in your house or outside. I have a cube here that has some pictures of kids just like you taking care of the world. Let s take turns rolling the cube and find out if you can do some of these things, too. During the activity say: For detailed instructions on how to do the activity see the DVD. 1. Roll the cube! 2. What do you see on the top of the cube? 3. That s a picture of a boy turning off the lights in his room. 4. Can you turn the lights off in your room? (Yes.) 5. You sure can! When you turn off the lights in your house you are saving money and saving electricity for you to use later on. 6. It s good to use the sun for light when it s out. 11

7. When should you turn off the lights in your room? (When I m not going to be in the room. When it s light outside.) 8. Very good. Let s say what we are learning today! God Wants Me To Take Care Of The World. 9. Good! Let s roll the cube again and see some more ways we can take care of the world. Note: Continue rolling the cube and talking about ways the children can take care of the world. Use the talking points below to help the children learn how they can do what they see in the pictures. Cube Pictures: Recycle Children can put their paper, plastic, and glass into the recycle bin at home. When we recycle, the products can be used again to make something else. Reuse Children can color on both sides of the paper instead of getting a new piece. They can use the same cup all day long. They can find ways to use trash items in art projects. Turn off water Children can turn off the water when they are brushing their teeth. They can tell their parents to turn the water off outside if they see it running down the street. Take only what you need Children can get into the practice of only taking the food they will eat. When they throw away food, they are wasting it and someone else could eat it later. Take only the supplies you need so you don t waste them either. Plant a garden The children can work with their family to plant a garden of food they can eat at home. They can also plant flowers to make the yard look pretty. By doing this, they are helping save money for other things. After the activity say: 1. Wow! There are a lot of things that you can do to take care of the world like God wants us to. 2. What are you going to do this week to take care of the world? 3. Let s all say what we are learning together. God Wants Me To Take Care Of The World. Summary: God wants us to take care of the things He created in the world. There are many things we can do to take care of the world! Think about doing at least one of these things this week! Note: If you have chosen to use the optional music, turn it off now.
