Term 4 Week 8 Thursday 7 December Number 16/17 In this newsletter... Principal s Column New Students Choir Farewell 2018 Stationery Battle of the Schools Thank You Speeches John Parsons Athletics Dates to Diary Nga mihi ki a koe me to whanau Greetings to you and your family Welcome to the final newsletter of 2017. This has been a year to remember with so much to celebrate. Once again our student achievement data is very strong with so many explorers achieving at the highest levels. We also celebrate the fantastic progress of those children who find some aspects of learning to be a real challenge. We have seen continued strong growth in the way that our students are able to help to design and control their own learning. Our explorers are determined to make a difference and we have been amazed at the range of ways that they have lived this aspect of our vision. Our senior explorers passion projects have found solutions to many problems, many of which could easily go into full scale production! Our skatepark team have won $750 in a prestigious engineering competition. We are looking forward to seeing their plans come to fruition. The last few days of school are jam packed with opportunities to celebrate with us. Tomorrow night s Year 6 leavers dinner will be a very special occasion with a unique mixture of celebration and a little sadness. Our celebration days with the junior Teddy Bears Picnic, middles Big Day In and the seniors visit to Rainbows End will be days filled with friendship and fun. We hope that you can also join us for next week s senior and junior prizegiving. We would like to take this opportunity to thank each of our parents, caregivers and supporters for your wonderful support and to wish you and your families, a wonderful festive season and a restful break. We look forward to working with you all again in the New Year. David & Team Best wishes

Best wishes to Miss Collins who will be marrying Mr Andrew Martin during the term break. We know that your Goodwood wedding was great preparation! We look forward to welcoming Mel back to school as Mrs Martin. Choir Congratulations to our choir who sang beautifully at the Town Hall as part of the Cambridge Christmas Festival. A special thank you to Choir teacher Claire Bertrand for all of your work with the choir for this event and the very successful Kids for Kids performance. Farewell We are very sad to farewell our wonderful teacher aide Di Berney. Di is off to make a difference on the support team of Cambridge High School, where we know she will do an amazing job. We will farewell Mrs Berney at the junior prize giving next week. Mrs Berney will continue to work with Mrs Sarah Taylor in their very popular after school maths programme. 2018 Stationery Yes, it is way too early to be thinking about 2018 but just a heads up that 2018 stationery is available through a very simple online click and delivery system through OfficeMax. Just go to https://www.myschool.co.nz/ enter Goodwood as your school and follow the easy instructions. For those who prefer, stationery will also be available through Wright's Paper Plus. John Parsons is Back By popular demand John Parsons is back at Goodwood to work with children and for a parent evening on on Monday 19th February 2018 covering Cyber Safety and Digital Citizenship. John will be your guide to navigate the complex years ahead of supporting your child to get this important aspect of life right. Mark

this in your calendar NOW. Parents who have attended John s sessions have found them invaluable. Thank you to our PTA for supporting John s visit. (If you cannot make Monday 19 February, John will be repeating the parent evening at different Cambridge schools Tuesday to Thursday of that week - you are welcome to attend any session) Battle of the Schools We are very proud of our Battle of the School teams. Goodwood Gold were the only primary school team in the team pursuit and managed a win in the final round. Great racing from the Black and Blue teams as well. Thank you coach Del and parent supporters. Thank you We would like to thank Mike O Connor, Pollock Farms Ltd and Rochdale Farms Ltd who by naming Goodwood School in the Bobby Calf Cash for Schools programme has resulted in the school receiving $334.00. Speeches Tino Pai to Lucy and Caitlin who represented Goodwood at speech finals tonight. Wonderfully presented speeches on why laughter is the best medicine and the effects of plastic and rubbish. Goodwood School App Are you reading this newsletter on our new app? You could be - just visit your app store for the free download - available for IOS or Android. 413 users have downloaded our school app so far - It is a great way to stay connected to events and happenings at Goodwood. This is always a very exciting time. Children will bring home confirmation of their class on the Thursday, along

with their end of year reports.
