Good luck to the Wildcats! Varsity Wildcat Football Team will play Carthage tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Lufkin at Abe Martin Stadium. The Ladycat Basketball Team is playing in the Jane Blitz CHS Tournament, this Thursday through Saturday in Corsicana. 1
LADYCAT BASKETBALL WILDCAT FOOTBALL The Wildcats will play a Bi-District game against Carthage at Abe Martin Stadium in Lufkin Friday night, November 16th at 7:30 pm. Tournament - Ladycats are playing in the Jane Blitz CHS Tournament, this Thursday through Saturday (November 15-17) in Corsicana. Ladycats vs Corsicana, Tuesday, November 20th, 5:00 pm, PHS. WILDCAT BASKETBALL The Wildcats Boys Basketball season will begin on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 with games against Kerens beginning at 5:00 pm at Palestine High School. Lt. Colonel William Hardy spoke to the PHS student body at a Veterans Day program on Monday. Lt. Hardy has served in the United States Army National Guard for the last 30 years as a medical officer. The audience enjoyed the National Anthem by the Wildcat Band & Choir and the Kik-Kat Drill Team performed a kick routine. William Stewart, Principal The PISD campus based nurse aide training for State of Texas certification is now scheduled to begin when students return in January. There will be two classes taught on the Palestine High School campus. PISD instructor, Sandra Bristow will be the instructor at PHS. A TVCC instructor will conduct the Advanced Skills Labs on the TVCC campus. PHS students are learning about repurposing old materials for new uses. They built and assembled the door pictured above from old, unused parts of the former barn structure. Congratulations! Palestine Middle School Students celebrated Veterans day Monday with outstanding student performances. The staff worked together to coordinate a variety of activities involving the community as well as our staff and students. Musical tributes were provided by our band and choir students. Our student council members organized the collection and presentation of toiletries for our troops. Our pledges and history of the day was provided by the council members. Our theater students made a great tribute to our troops with two theatrical presentations. We also recognized and honored veterans in attendance. It was a great time on our campus. Students have spent this week getting introduced to our new reading lab. The Istation Lab is a computer based program to help students grow their reading skills. The boys basketball season began this week in Rusk. Their next game will be Monday, November 26th at Palestine Middle School. The faculty and staff are thankful and appreciative of the turkeys we received Wednesday from central office. We will have our Thanksgiving feast today and look forward to campus fellowship and sharing. Larissa Loveless, Principal 4
Brandon Jayroe, Principal Watch D.O.G.S. - Tuesday evening we had our first Launch event for Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) Program. This is an innovative program being used by schools across America which helps them to be positively impacted by the committed involvement of fathers & father-figures in their student s life. We had several fathers sign up and will begin volunteering after the Thanksgiving holiday. Thanksgiving Luncheon - Parents and family members joined their child on Tuesday to enjoy turkey & dressing and all the fixings. We had a wonderful turn out and appreciate the Food Service ladies for preparing the delicious meal. Donations for family: Recently one of our students lost their home in a fire. Students and staff donated canned foods, clothing, blankets, gift cards, etc. Students that brought 3 or more items, enjoyed a movie last Friday. Thank you for all the donations. 5 Christmas Store: On November 27-29 th Nanny s Red Neck Bling & Things will be set up on our stage with hundreds of gifts for the holidays. They will be open from 8:30-3 pm daily. Students will have scheduled times to shop. Family and staff are also invited to shop as well. Family night will be on Tuesday, November 27 th from 6-8 pm. Santa Claus will be here on family night as well to have pictures taken with children for $5.00.
Southside students truly are WILD about learning Picture Re-Takes were completed this week for any student that missed the first photo opportunity or students that were new to the district. Southside would like to extend a BIG Thank You to Mr. Loveless for his hard work and dedication to P.I.S.D. Wednesday was Turkey Day at Southside Gobble Gobble! Southside hosted their annual Thanksgiving Luncheon and had a wonderful turnout. Special Thanks to our WONDERFUL Cafeteria Staff for making this event such a huge success. On Thursday our 2 nd grade students worked extremely hard to ACE their ELAR Benchmark! Enjoy the much deserved Thanksgiving holidays! Stephen Cooksey Principal 6
Our Veterans Day Program was a great success as we honored our Veterans who were guests of our Students. Kindergarten teacher, Denise McDonald, was our guest speaker. Students presented information about the 5 military branches, and 575 angels sang God Bless the USA. It was quite moving. The MegaBlast party was fun, students bounced and bounced! Tuesday night our PTO featured a pizza dinner for our families. Mrs. Webb and students from 7 first grade classrooms presented our November Patriotic Program. First Grade students took benchmarks this week - ELAR was on Wednesday and Math on Thursday. Students enjoyed a Family Thanksgiving Lunch on Thursday with turkey and all the trimmings. The fundraiser celebration is Friday. Top selling students will receive a fun limo ride to lunch. Students have done a great job collecting canned goods for Thanksgiving baskets for families who need them. The teachers will donate turkeys. WASHINGTON EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER Veterans Day was celebrated by our students with the help of Ann Coleman and Evelyn Cupid from the Veterans Historic Education Center. They demonstrated folding the American flag with the help of Gemma Garcia. The students were told that each fold represents a principle or symbol, Thank you to all our Veterans. Turnip Greens and Mustard Greens have been harvested from the garden. Thank you to Ms. Murray and Ms. Roman s class for growing a big batch of greens. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE FROM WECC!
