ISS Instructions Last updated March 2011 The Instructor Support System (ISS) enables you to easily track the progress of each of your students by investing about five minutes per class each week to enter student results. The information you enter into the ISS will also provide our Implementation Managers with the details they need to provide you with timely and appropriate assistance. Our collective goal is the reliable acceleration of student skills. Simply begin by setting up each of your classes and then each of your students within those classes. Once your classes and students are set up, you will only need to log in at the end of each week to enter specific data from your Daily Outlines. As long as you have the Daily Outlines available, you will be able to work from your computer at home or at school. Once you have entered all your data, you will be able to print your Weekly Report and your Daily Outlines for the next week. If you have any difficulties, please contact our support team by phone at 1-800-594-4263 weekdays from 8am to 4pm CST or email ISS@pcieducation.com. Getting Started: 1. Begin by opening Microsoft Internet Explorer (some users may prefer to use Mozilla Firefox available at http://www.mozilla.com/en-us/firefox/). 2. Type the ISS web address into the address bar of the web browser (www.spellread.com/iss). Enter your User Name (your first and last name in lowercase with no spaces) and your Password (your initial password is woot). If you are a returning instructor, simply use the password that you chose last year. 3. Change your password as directed. Once you change your password, you will automatically be redirected to the ISS home page. 4. Begin setting up your classes by selecting Classesa Setup Classes from the menu bar at the top of the page. The following information is required when setting up your classes: 1) Class schedule (days of the week, start time, and end time) 2) Daily class duration (in minutes) 3) Start and end date of the class ISS Instructions Page 1 of 5

Select Add from the navigation buttons at the bottom of the table to set up a new class. Once you are finished, select More to save the current class and create another, or select Save to save and exit. 5. Set up the students within each class by selecting Studentsa Student Setup Wizard from the menu bar at the top of the page. The following information is required for each student: 1) First and last name 2) Student ID 3) Date of birth 4) First day of SpellRead classes 5) Current grade in school 6) Current SpellRead class 7) Exceptionalities ISS Instructions Page 2 of 5

Weekly Activities Once your classes and students are set up, you can begin to enter your weekly reports and print out your daily outlines. These activities are conveniently located on the right hand side of the ISS home page. 1. View Daily Outline Generates a daily outline that you can print for each of your classes. The Daily Outline is useful for keeping track of student progress each week and lesson planning. 2. Enter Weekly Report Opens up the Weekly Report Wizard. 3. The following information will be necessary when you enter your weekly report: 1) The class name 2) Minutes instructed that week 3) Phase A Review and Remediation completed 4) Lesson number reached 5) Mini-lesson completed 6) The books read and the last page reached 7) Student attendance and behavior issues 8) Speed reading scores 9) Share reading fluency 10) Writing proficiency scores 11) Any important individual class or student comments Additionally you can open the Weekly Report Wizard by selecting Reportsa Instructor Reportsa Weekly Reportsa Enter Weekly Report from the menu bar at the top of the page. The Weekly Report Wizard will guide you as you transfer information from each Daily Outline into your Weekly Report. You will have to enter new information and verify default data (changing it where required). All the required information should be readily available from your Daily Outlines. As you complete each class, print a copy of the Weekly Report and staple it to the Daily Outlines for that week (with the Weekly Report on top). Make sure that you retain all Daily Outlines and Weekly Reports in your files. Then print the necessary copies of the Daily Outline for the next week. ISS Instructions Page 3 of 5

4. View Weekly Report Once a weekly report has been entered, it can be viewed for the next two weeks by clicking on View Weekly Reports. To open a report that is older than two weeks, select ReportsaWeekly ReportsaView All My Weekly Reports from the menu bar at the top of the page. 5. Add Test Scores Each time your students complete testing, the results need to be entered into the ISS. Clicking on Add Test Scores will allow you to enter the test scores for all your students. Alternatively you can select StudentsaAdd Student Test Scores. 6. Online Training In addition to the instructor training course, SpellRead also offers online training. Go to Online Training at any time to practice skills and activities that are used in teaching the SpellRead program. (Note The SpellRead Online Training is only compatible with machines running a Windows operating system.) Other Items 1. You can change your Password by selecting ResourcesaEdit Profile from the menu bar at the top of the page. Select Change at the bottom of the table. Add or correct any information as required, and then click on the Save button at the bottom of the table to save the information and exit. If you forget your password, you can create a new one by clicking on Forgot Your Password? on the login screen. Instructions will be sent to the email address that we have on file. 2. Sorting your Student or Class Data You may want to sort your class or student information in a specific manner or only view the weekly reports for a certain class. You can access the ISS query feature by placing your curser on the v symbol on the top left corner of any table and clicking. Drop-down boxes will appear at the top of each column. Select the parameter to be used for the search (e.g., Class 1), and then press the > symbol, located to the left of the column headers. Only data relating to Class 1 will appear on the table. To exit the search, select ^ at the top left side of the table. ISS Instructions Page 4 of 5

3. Switching Students Between Classes and Transferring Students Between Schools When students are switched between classes that you teach (this is done only in consultation with your Implementation Manager), you may switch the student on the ISS by going to StudentsaView My Students. Select the student who is switching classes and go to View. Once in View, select Edit Student Information and then select the student s new class from the drop-down box. Select Save to save and exit. When students are transferred between schools, and there is space for them to continue in the SpellRead program, then your Implementation Manager will enable this transfer on the ISS. 4. Book Guides, Text Excerpts, TRB, and Speed Reading Charts The ISS contains access to book guides, text excerpts, additional chapters from the Teacher s Resource Book, and Speed Reading Charts. Book guides provide a synopsis of a book, highlight optional vocabulary, offer questions for discussion, and provide prompts for writing. Text excerpts can be printed and used when teaching weekly comprehension strategy mini-lessons. The Teacher s Resource Book has been reprinted and now contains additional chapters; the additional chapters are now accessible from the ISS. Speed Reading Charts have been developed for each of the speed packs and may be printed out and sent home with students for review and practice. To access these resources select ResourcesaInstructional Support. Some Tips in Case You Get Lost 1. If you use the Back button on your web browser, it can knock you out of the system when you are completing the Weekly Report Wizard. If this happens, try pressing the Refresh button on the web browser. You should find yourself back to where you were. We recommend using the Back to Step button at the bottom of the Wizard page instead of the Back button on your browser. If a box appears that says retry or cancel, choose retry. 2. Help is available when using the ISS: 1.) Help links are available throughout the ISS. 2.) If you experience problems during your ISS session, call 1-800-594-4263 or email ISS@pcieducation.com.
