Foreword from the CEO Ibelieve that education has the power to create new and exciting life chances for young people and I am passionate about seeing them being able to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Our young people live in a complex and ever changing world; a world in which they will face opportunities as well as new and yet to be defined challenges. Lionheart Academies Trust aims to play a part in preparing them to be confident, resilient, mature, aspirational and active young people. I believe that it is essential to shape learners with these key qualities and as a Trust we seek to break down barriers in order to provide opportunities for all students to progress. I am proud to have a staff body, whether being fresh into teaching or having extensive experience, who are united in this aim to drive up standards and provide exciting opportunities for our young people. I am even more proud of the successes of our young people and feel privileged to witness some of their achievements, whether big or small. Achievements which will allow for social mobility and opportunities for all young people to progress, regardless of their starting point, and I am proud that we always strive for equity and seek to break down any barriers that hinder future opportunities for young people. Kath Kelly In all of our academies, our young people attain well and achieve through a broad, balanced and appropriate curriculum. However, we do not choose to rest on our laurels and soak up successes, but rather we seek to continue to self-reflect and evaluate in order to push further for greater successes for young people. Across our Trust and with other schools and academies, we aim to share best practice, work closely in partnerships and offer our expertise on a local and national level. I believe that as we do this, Lionheart Academies Trust will stand as a shining light in education across the East Midlands and beyond. As you continue reading our brochure, I hope that you will be able to capture our vision and more importantly see how much we enjoy working with young people in order to open doors for them. Our Journey... The Lionheart Academies Trust was founded in April 2014 in order to establish a foundation for the improvement and enhancement of educational provision in the East Midlands. Centred around our outstanding lead academy, Beauchamp College, we have a strong track record of academic excellence, coupled with a clear focus of providing a holistic education which develops young people socially, emotionally and spiritually. From the foundation of the Multi Academy Trust we had the main priority of investing in the lives of young people from their early experiences of schooling in nursery, to their final years preparing for university or other employment opportunities. Our aim is simple, whether it be in our nursery school, primary schools, secondary schools or sixth form colleges, and that is to provide a range of educational experiences that are challenging, equitable, enjoyable and are able to break down any barriers so that all can succeed. This involves seeking to create life-long learners and offer outstanding provision for our 4-19 year olds. Since the establishment of our Trust we have gradually grown into a supportive network of academies and we continue to go from strength to strength. This has included collaboratively working with a range of schools, both at primary and secondary level, some who initially had some difficult and challenging circumstances. We are proud of the support we have been able to provide all schools who have joined our Trust, from supporting Ofsted judged inadequate schools to become good schools in less than two years, to working closely with senior leaders in order to help raise educational achievement for young people. In addition to leading our own academies, Beauchamp College is a National Support School and is experienced in successfully supporting schools and governing bodies to realise rapid improvements. As our journey continues we believe that it is our moral imperative to continue to work closely with a range of educational providers so that as many young people can benefit from the high educational standards we set ourselves. There have been many highlights in our journey so far. One significant highlight has been gaining recognition as a lead centre for mathematics establishing ourselves as the Maths Hub for the East Midlands in October 2014. This has involved us taking a strategic lead in developing outstanding mathematics provision across the region. Another achievement has been our continued focus to help shape and develop outstanding practitioners through our SCITT programme, having a high number of trainees gain QTS through us. But perhaps our proudest achievement is our outstanding provision which places our lead academy in the top one percent of schools nationally for levels progress at GCSE. This is because beyond all of the work we do with other schools, student achievement is our main business and key priority. Ultimately we believe that we have an even more exciting journey ahead of us. Our Trust is committed to building a family of outstanding schools and academies in Leicester and Leicestershire which are focused on creating staff and students who are passionate about learning. 2 3

Our Philosophy Our philosophy is clear. We promote a studentcentred approach that is underpinned by the understanding that the highest quality education is a right that all young people deserve regardless of their starting points. We are dedicated to providing young people with the strongest foundations; educational qualifications that they can feel proud about because their education has taught them how to feel proud. We know that promoting a positive, proactive approach that celebrates success unites school communities and breaks down barriers to learning. Students under our care will be taught how to learn in this way. We encourage students at every level of ability to aspire to develop personally and academically. At the cornerstone of this philosophy are the 4Rs which underpin everything that we believe and do. The 4Rs encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning, help them to grow in confidence, and prepare them for life outside of education. They are: Resilience The ability to bounce back when facing challenges. Reciprocity Learning to work with others showing care and understanding. Resourcefulness Having the confidence and independence to ask for help and search out answers in new ways. Reflectiveness Understanding what needs to be done to make the next steps and plan how to do this. Practice We are committed to developing and using teachers and other staff who are highly qualified. All of our subject specialists are skilled and professional practitioners who believe that quality first teaching is at the core of our Trust. 4 5

About our Chair Chris Swan MBE Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Nelson Mandela Chris Swan is a National Leader in Governance with comprehensive experience of chairing both primary and secondary schools, and has worked extensively within the Trust since its foundation to support, develop and promote effective governance at a local level based on the local context. Trained as a primary school teacher, Chris has been actively involved in community engagement, church and inter-faith work for many years and recognises the significant value local communities can bring to schools. Chris has played a key role in the development of local community networking groups in our secondary schools, working with community partners to collectively promote the best opportunities for children, young people and their families. I've seen first-hand the profound benefits of an outstanding education and its potential to open doors through having two sons who attended Beauchamp College and are now thriving as they work in education in Japan and New Zealand. Every child deserves an education which develops their potential, gives them self-belief and the courage to take risks, and the ability to bounce back when they fail. Our commitment as a Trust is to set the bar high and work tirelessly to ensure that all children and young people in our care have access to the very best. We recognise that there is always work to be done and welcome the opportunity to work with schools who share our philosophy and ethos so that together we can identify areas for development, draw on best practice from around the world, challenge each other through professional dialogue and work to create dynamic, innovative, outstanding schools in which children and young people thrive. Our Commitment to Learning and Teaching 10 Our Model Our commitment is to ensure that student learning is central in all that we do. We believe that a key part of this is to invest in our staff by providing opportunities for them to be able to develop their practice. We believe that one of the most effective ways to improve student attainment is by ensuring that as a staff body we are able to have a real appreciation for student learning and have a clear appreciation for the latest pedagogical developments. That is why we feel it is essential to be able to provide a platform in which staff are able to share best practice both within their local learning community, but also engage with a wide array of different learning communities and other external bodies. Our vision for staff development has two main strands: developing our classroom practioners to help facilitate life-long learners and providing opportunities for our staff to progress into the next steps of their career. We are focused on providing opportunities for staff to develop their own classroom practice. This is achieved through a range of different outlets which include: Whole staff training sessions, Lesson Study and Action Research, Professional Learning Communities, Coaching, external CPD courses and sharing best practice in local learning communities. At the heart of all of these is focusing on ways to develop our young people into becoming more resilient, reflective, resourceful and reciprocal learners. Our staff development also focuses on providing opportunities for staff, both teaching and associate staff, to be able to progress further in their careers and take the next steps whatever they may be. We have specific courses to enable staff opportunities to develop their skills in becoming middle and senior leaders; often through specific CPD and through shadowing senior staff. The strength of our learning and teaching model is that our training, support and rigorous monitoring feeds directly into the development of each school, curriculum area and individual practioner. Essentially we believe that by directly investing in our staff will lead to improved student attainment and more confident practitioners who are able to flourish. The Coaching Programme Our Trust is proud of our coaching programme which operates in all of our academies and a number of our other partner schools. We have trained a significant number of teaching and associate staff as coaches through our Masters accredited programme; many of whom have seen this programme enable them to rapidly progress further in their own careers. By training to be a coach, I was able to reflect on my questioning techniques which has directly affected my practice. I feel as though my practice as a teacher has been strengthened by coaching others. Oliver Rowe (English Teacher and Coach) We believe coaching is an effective tool to raise teaching standards, boost skills, help manage workloads and motivate individuals. It involves a six week cycle in which a coachee sets their own goals giving them ownership and direction, whilst being supported by their coach. The responses to this programme have been overwhelmingly positive from both our staff and students who have been coached, and from those who have been trained to deliver the coaching programme. Teaching Training O ur lead academy has a long-standing reputation of providing excellent teacher training. Whether this be through our own successful SCITT programme which provides a solid platform for trainees to take their first steps in the classroom, or through the work with our partner universities in supporting PGCE students gain valuable classroom experience. We are committed to having a training programme which is at the forefront of pedagogical development so that we can invest in the teachers of the future. 11

What we can offer We believe that a supportive, collaborative approach is the most effective way to allow for success. Whether we are working closely with classroom practitioners, associate staff, business managers or senior leaders, it is essential that we work together as a team. The Trust has already witnessed a number of successes and we see it as our moral duty to share best practice with other education providers in order to allow for outstanding outcomes for young people. We seek to offer support in three key areas: School Improvement: Schools are measured by attainment and achievement, with a strong focus on levels of progress and therefore we look at clear ways in which we can further improve standards. Whether working in partnership with senior leaders, supporting with Headteacher performance management, providing Ofsted inspection support, evaluating learning and teaching, or supporting with data analysis and monitoring, we are experienced in strategically and sensitively creating a framework which can lead to successful outcomes. Governance, HR and Policy: We recognise that for a school to be successful there needs to be clear governing body that can support and challenge a school s approach. The Trust has an extensive range of personnel who have experience in shaping and empowering governance, providing strategic HR support and developing policies and procedures. Essentially, this only provides a flavour of our services and we would be happy to provide a more comprehensive break-down of our approach to working in partnership with other schools. It is our aim to ensure that we always work with integrity, respect and always seek to develop positive relationships. Finance and Business: Now more than ever, schools need to be able to ensure that they have a business model which provides a secure platform for stability and growth. Our team have comprehensive experience in providing financial advice, support and training, along with a range of other services such as procurement, estates, health and safety, insurance and auditing services, and IT consultancy. The support provided by Beauchamp College to improve teaching and learning was the key part of our journey from being an inadequate school to being judged good by Ofsted How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.
