The university can give credit for no more than 70 units of junior or two-year college work, and there is a maximum of 90 units that may be accepted from a four-year institution. No course from a two year or junior college can transfer to meet an APU upper division requirement. Any course not listed in this agreement will not have an APU equivalent, but will still be transferable IF designated as CSU or UC transferable in the course catalog. Only courses where a grade of C- or above has been earned can be considered for transfer credit. A minimum grade-point average of 2.2 (academic GPA) for all college work completed is required for admission to APU. Health Education 2 Emphasis is placed on stress, diet, nutrition, communicable and chronic diseases, alcohol and drug abuse, lifestyles, childbirth, physical fitness, and environmental health. Fitness for Life 1 This course should NOT emphasize skills, but the physical activity with a cardio component. Foreign Language 8 Two semesters of the same foreign language are required. High School courses taken do not waive this requirement. Must be college level. Cannot be taken as an online or hybrid course. 3 Course must be in the Math department with a pre-requisite of Intermediate Algebra. Aesthetics & the Creative Arts 3 A broad, survey course in Art or Music. Examples: Introduction to Art, Art History, Art Appreciation, Music Fundamentals, History of Music, or Music Appreciation. Heritage & Institutions 3 Typical examples: World Civilization (any period before 1900), U.S. History (pre- or post-civil War), American Government, Introduction to Political Science, Humanities, Comparative Government. Philosophy 3 Introduction to Philosophy - covering the beginnings of philosophical thought, including Plato, Descartes, Aristotle etc. (however, cannot be Ethics or Logic). Identity & Relationships 3 Introduction to Sociology, Personal and Social Adjustment, General Psychology, or Human Growth and Development (course work must include entire life span). Language & Literature 3 Introduction to Literature (commonly English 1B or English 102), exploring literary genres of poetry, fiction, and drama or Introduction to World Literature or Introduction to American Literature. We will not accept Critical Thinking courses (commonly English 1C or English 103, CSU GE Area A3, or IGETC 1B) Nature 4 Lab required. Fundamentals of Biology, General Biology, Fundamentals of Chemistry, General Chemistry, Introduction to Astronomy (emphasis on stellar systems), Physical Geology, Fundamentals of Physics, General Physics, Oceanography, Zoology, Marine Biology. General Studies Electives varies Students are required to take 3-6 units of General Studies Elective courses depending upon the number of units transferred in. Courses taken a two year college are lower division and the student will still be responsible for taking the required number of upper division elective courses. See APU s current catalog for more information. IGETC/CSU GE APU accepts the completed IGETC or CSU GE as fulfilling the lower division APU General Studies program requirements. However, the student will need complete these provisions as part and/or in addition to their completed IGETC or CSU/GE. Students will need to meet the foreign language requirement of 2 semesters of the same language at the college level Students will need to meet the Health Education and Fitness for Life requirements Students will need to complete a math course from the department with at least a pre-requisite of Intermediate Algebra. All APU students will be required to complete the requisite number of biblical studies and upper division elective courses. In the cases of both the CSU GE and IGETC, the certificate must be complete, and the certificate must be obtained from the respective community college before the student matriculates to APU. Students who do not receive certification of completion will be evaluated by standard course-to-course articulation and will follow the APU General Studies program.
