Call to Order Johnny Price called the June Staff Council meeting to order at 10:34 a.m., June 14, 2018. II. Attendance (sign in sheet) III. IV. Approval of Minutes May The minutes are sent out via email, and any comments/questions/or changes should be emailed to Ev Barrett (ebarrett@olemiss.edu). Motion to approve by Kevin Cozart. Seconded by Jackie Vinson. The May Minutes were approved. Approval of Treasurer s Report May The Treasurer s Report is sent out via email, and any comments/questions/or changes should be emailed to Je Lisa McGee (hairston@olemiss.edu). Motion to approve by Anne Klingen. Seconded by Anne Scott Barrett. The May Treasurer s Report was approved. V. Staff Member of the Month for June Staff members submit nominations through UM Today announcements and the Staff Council website. The nominations included for June are listed on page 4. The Staff Council members voted electronically on the nominees. The Staff Member for the Month for June is Camille Toles, secretary in the Department of Psychology. VI. Reports of Committees a. Red and Blue Celebration see p. 5 for event report. This was a success and we plan to make this an annual event. This will not be retroactive. We will not give cords to individuals who graduated prior to December 2017. The subcommittee will meet at the Ventress Hall Conference room at 9:30 on Wednesday June 20 to begin planning for 2019. Anyone who would like to 1

participate is welcome to attend. b. Staff Appreciation We do have left over T-shirts (mostly L and XL) to distribute. The turnout was excellent all week and everyone enjoyed it. Johnny suggested that we hand-deliver the pins and certificates that weren t handed out at the ceremony. He will send an email when they come in to ask for volunteers to distribute. VII. VIII. IX. Unfinished Business a. Career Development Event Gazel is working with DICE to get the mentorship program back running. Gazel would like to have a retreat for Staff Council members b. By-laws Committee This committee met earlier in the spring but did not finalize the revisions. Gazel would like to comprehensively review the bylaws over the summer. Any staff council members who are interested in this project should let her know. New Business a. Chancellor s Standing Committees Johnny sent a list around for staff council members to indicate their preferences. He will determine the final list and communicate this with the Chancellor s office b. Staff Council Officer Elections Gazel Giles has been selected to serve as President by the Executive Council and Johnny Price will serve as Immediate Past President. Ballots were passed out for the other positions and the nominees are listed below. All of these were unopposed. President-elect: Jason Shirkey Secretary: Ev Barrett Treasurer: Danielle Noonan Textbook Scholarship Administrator: Premalatha Balachandran Communications and Marketing Coordinator: Deetra Wiley c. Planning for next year Johnny asked staff council members to send Gazel ideas for projects, events, or speakers for meetings. Gazel would like to continue looking for space for us to use for storage. Red & Blue Celebration of UM Staff 2018 After Event Report to Staff Council May 9, 2018 Noon Jackson Avenue Center 39 Recipients over 100 attendees Feedback about the event This was a very positive and successful event that generate a lot of goodwill. Several administrative staff have already indicated that they want to participate next year. After talking to Staff Council s Executive Board, it was decided that SC should continue to offer this event in the future. We have begun planning for next year and expect that many more groups will want to participate in the future. Estimated Final Budget Details below, but Staff Council spent $456.45 on the event. Planning for next year Several staff members have volunteered to help with next year s event, but we are looking for more help. Our next meeting is June 20, 2018 @ 9:30am (Ventress Hall) Please contact Anne (annek@olemiss.edu) or Kevin (kcozart@olemiss.edu) if you would like to participate or just come to the meeting on June 20.
