Have sympathy with and give support to the educational aims and ethos of the school. 2. Be an active and supportive member of the Senior Management Team. 3. Make such reports as the Headmaster and ISP may reasonably require. 4. Be included in all social events relating to the schools as a whole. 5. Work such hours as shall be deemed reasonable and necessary to discharge the Head of Secondary duties efficiently and conscientiously. The Head of Secondary may not hold any office or engage in any employment or voluntary activity, which may interfere with the proper performance of the Head of Secondary duties. 6. Assist with the efficient organisation and administration of the school. 7. Participate in the teaching of pupils as appropriate and have regard to the other duties listed below. B. The Head of Secondary has specific responsibility for the School s academic process and the development of the delivery of the curriculum in all Key Stages of Secondary. 1. To be responsible for the development of the curriculum at all levels in consultation with the Heads of Department under direction of the Headmaster. 2. To give guidance on the choice of options in Year 9. 3. To inform pupils of their timetable. 4. To be responsible to the Headmaster for the work of the timetabling team. 5. To have overall responsibility for assessment, recording and reporting in the school. 6. To liaise with the Head of Pastoral Care to ensure the appropriate implementation of policy in relation to Special Needs throughout the School. 7. To oversee the programme of departmental reviews; results, staffing, and providing positive feedback to HoDs and staff. 8. To assist in the coordination of the School s programme of Appraisal. 9. To meet in the Autumn Term, and when otherwise necessary, with each Head of Department to review overall academic performance of pupils and staff where appropriate. 10. To share in the minuting of meetings, when necessary. 11. To interview prospective pupils to explain the available curriculum and assess the pupil s basic standard on entering the school. 12. To have an overview of the school curriculum. 13. To share in the preparation of the School Development Plan. 14. To oversee the process in Internal Examinations. 15. To oversee all baseline testing in Years 7 and 9. 16. To share in the updating of the Staff Handbook. 17. To help collate, update and publish the school calendar. 18. To assist with organization of Parents Evenings and Parents Information Afternoons. 3

The Head of Secondary is expected to support the Headmaster and school stakeholders in ensuring the highest quality of learning and teaching by: 1. Providing an example of excellence as a leading classroom practitioner and inspiring and motivating other staff. 2. Working with the Senior Leadership Team and Headmaster to sustain high expectations and excellent practice in learning and teaching throughout the school. 3. Monitoring and evaluating the quality of teaching and standards of student s achievement and use benchmarks and set targets for improvement 4. Being involved in monitoring and supporting continuous professional development with other members of staff to raise student s standards of achievement and to evaluate practice 5. Assisting the Headmaster and staff in ensuring that resources are effectively deployed to provide maximum benefit for learning and teaching D. The Head of Secondary is expected to assist in the maintenance of the ethos of the school by; 1. Endeavouring to ensure that ISP values are central to the school and the relationships within it. 2. Assisting in the production of criteria and procedures for selecting pupils in consultation with the Headmaster. 2. Assisting in the development of staff appropriately and allocating duties in a manner consistent with conditions of employment. 2. Encouraging the staff to share in the process by which the aims and objectives of the school are interpreted, supported and believed. 3. Assisting the Headmaster in the appointment and appraisal of staff where appropriate. 4. Assisting the Headmaster in the school s Professional Development programme as appropriate. 5. Assisting with the efficient organisation and administration of the school and ensure the support of the staff. PERSON SPECIFICATION Bachelor s degree and Qualified Teacher Status Master s degree in Education (desirable but not essential) Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Minimum 5 years teaching experience as an outstanding teacher Minimum 3 years successful and relevant experience in a position of educational leadership at secondary level Up to date knowledge and experience of the British national curriculum. Evidence of relevant Continuous Professional Development Collaborative leadership style, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Flexible and adaptable to change, growth and development. Ambitious, hard-working, motivated and a strong role model. G. The Head of Secondary is expected to assist in the management of effective public relations. This includes; 1. Assisting in an effective communication system within the schools for the day to day running and management of events.
