of community services Certificate IV in Mental Health CHC40512 According to a recent survey by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), almost one in five Australians has experienced symptoms of a mental health illness during the last 12 months. Anxiety, depression and substance use disorders are common areas for concern. Mental health is a complex issue and people need continuing support from those who are trained to provide effective care in a time of need. This course is aimed at individuals who may be working in community services, volunteering at a place where people present with mental health issues, or who may have recent experience with a friend or family member who needed additional support. This course has been designed to give you a strong, theory-backed knowledge base and the ability to work within three main areas of focus: rehabilitation and support for people affected by mental illness, implementing community based activities and standards focusing on mental health and mental health promotion. Specifically, you ll learn about rehabilitation and support, and the link between mental health, anxiety, alcohol and other drugs. There will be case studies that detail solutions for families and the workplace and how approaches to these circumstances might differ. If you are currently (or plan to be) implementing community based activities or engaging in mental health promotion work it is essential to equip yourself with the skills that will ensure you are able to effectively deal with people who experience mental health challenges. Roles in human resources, community groups and support services roles might all benefit. A work placement is included in this course where you will work with an accredited professional to support you in your studies, allowing you to gain practical skills.
