Hans Feibusch: Still Life (private collection) Hans Feibusch: The Influence of Europe 24 November 2011 15 January 2012 This exhibition is a celebration of sculptor and painter Hans Feibusch s prodigious career, exploring the biblical and classical themes that constantly inspired him, as well as landscapes, still life, portraits and figure studies in a variety of media that includes sculpture, pastel, oils, gouache and lithographs. Here we present the Otter Gallery s own Feibusch drawing of Two Angels in the context of other preparatory and gridded sketches for murals. The exhibition features works on loan from Pallant House Gallery (which holds the artist s studio archive), alongside pictures loaned by Chichester Cathedral and private collections. 04 www.chi.ac.uk/ottergallery

1.David Wise, 2. Maggie Tredwell, 3. Dorothe Haverhals 1. 2. 3. TRANSITIONS work in progress 21 January 26 February TRANSITIONS: The process or a period of changing from one state to another. The Fine Art MA course at the University of Chichester offers an opportunity for students to draw on past experience and develop new ways of making. The artists taking part in this show - Diana Brighouse, Maggie Tredwell, David Wise, Natalie Pudaloff and Dorothe Haverhals - come from very different backgrounds and explore different material practices. The exhibition comes approximately halfway through their MA studies, and the work shown here reflects the point in the students journeys at which they now find themselves. The work may appear disparate in subject matter but is unified by representing a transition point for each artist. Tel: 01243 816098 05

Now on long-term loan to The Lightbox, the collection includes over 350 works that span nearly 100 years of art from the 1900s to the present day, by artists including Sir Anthony Caro, Sir Eduardo Paolozzi, Dame Elisabeth Frink, Edward Burra, Eric Gill, Barbara Hepworth and Leon Underwood. This exhibition features a selection of paintings and sculpture from the collection. 06 www.chi.ac.uk/ottergallery

Image from Across: exhibition of work by Level 4/5 Fine Art students 2011 Clear Spot 25 April 20 May In the study of Fine Art, students learn something of Captain Beefheart's (Don van Vliet) wisdom, in his natty refrain: you have to run a long way to find a clear spot. Here at the University of Chichester we have the luxury of a wonderful location, a great programme and team, and good facilities to help students find their way through the challenge of discovering their own clear spot for thinking and making like an artist. In this exhibition we see developmental work from a selection of Level 4 and 5 students (first and second years) as they progress towards the final hurdle of the Degree Show (this year's Degree Show can be seen concurrently in artone). To find out more or to book a session contact the Gallery Officer Laura Kidner on 01243 816098 email l.kidner@chi.ac.uk. 08 www.chi.ac.uk/ottergallery

Creative Writing Workshops at the Otter Gallery (in association with Chic Lit) The Otter Gallery s poet-in-residence Stephanie Norgate hosts regular creative writing workshops aimed at developing poems and other writing in response to exhibitions at the gallery. Poet and playwright Stephanie runs the MA in Creative Writing at the University of Chichester and her poetry collection Hidden River (2008) was shortlisted for the Forward First Collection Prize and the Jerwood Aldeburgh First Collection. Her plays have been broadcast on Radio 4 and in 2010 she took part in a collaborative project with the painter Jayne Sandys-Renton when paintings and poems were brought together for The Fallen House and Other Voices exhibition at the Otter Gallery. Stephanie s 90-minute creative writing sessions take place within the gallery itself, and are open to beginners and those with experience. Members of the public are particularly welcome at the workshops, which cost 3 per session (free to University students and staff). 2012 workshop dates: TRANSITIONS work in progress Wednesday, 8 February, 12-1.30pm The Ingram Collection of Modern Art Wednesday, 7 March, 12-1.30pm Clear Spot Wednesday, 4th April, 12-1.30pm Stephanie Norgate Chichester Literati (Chic Lit) is based in the Department of English and Creative Writing at the University of Chichester and offers a forum for everyone with an interest in literature, creative writing and the visual arts.
