Welcome to Mrs. Lawson s Math Class! Learn what our classroom rules, procedures, routines and grading policies are.

How to Raise Your Hand You must raise your hand and be called on in order to speak, unless otherwise stated for a specific activity. It is expected for you do go to the bathroom before class starts.

Expectations for Today Take notes Notes you ll use to study for the quiz at the end of the week Practice procedures and Routines

Note Taking Expectations Legibility- you and I both have to be able to read your notes When you ask me a question about something we have covered in class the first thing I ll ask to see is your notes I ll do random note checks for classwork grades There will be notebook quizzes

Note Taking Format

Class Rules Be respectful to peers, adults, and property Practice kindness Be prepared Follow directions the first time Keep your workspace clean Keep backpack off of the floor Be on time No Fragrances!

Bring to Class Pencil/Pen, Paper, Assignment from the night before, Notes Any addition supplies specific to the day (ex. Compass, Project, etc.) If you are in need of a pencil or paper: BEFORE class starts: Take a pre-sharpened pencil and/or some lined paper off of the desk in front After class: return the pencil!

Backpack Rules Backpacks are to be hanging off of the back of your chair at all times If you can t keep out of your backpack during class, it will need to be stored on the desk in the front of the room

Tissues and Hand Sanitizer When I m out of tissues, they are gone so use them wisely My hand sanitizer is not for you, it is for me If you like to have hand sanitizer, bring your own, but be sure that it is fragrance free

Passes Take out your school planner Flip to the back; the first page that says Notes Cross out the word Notes Write Passes Create a table with four columns Date, Time, Location, Teacher Signature Repeat this for the first four Notes pages Then label each page as either ¼, 2/4, ¾, 4/4

Consequences Negative After School Detention/Referral Lunch Detention Come Early: 2.5 min Detention Come on Time: 5 min Detention Come Late: 7 min Detention If I have to go get you: Full Lunch Detention Phone call or e-mail home Positive Good Referral Positive phone call or e-mail home Sit by a friend or Sit at Teacher s Desk

Paper Pick-Up and Hand-Out Time to Practice! Take out a clean sheet of paper Format it according to the Note Taking Format we just learned I ll ask you to hand papers up the rows for me to pick up and hand back the same way

Coming in and Leaving Coming in Procedure Walk quietly to your seat, place your back pack on the back of your chair, if you need paper or a pencil ask classmates (not me) before the tardy bell Tardy Policy- I lock the door during the tardy bell, you must knock and I will let you in (4 or more tardies = detention) Quietly take out last nights assignment and a clean sheet of paper, begin working on the bell ringer This not a time to ask me questions; bell ringers will be collected and graded Leaving Procedure I tell you when to pack up and when you are dismissed, not the bell (I will hold you late)

Coming in and Leaving Let s Review and Practice Leaving I ll tell you to pack up And you will do what? I ll tell you that you can go And you will do what? Coming in I ll let you in And you will do what?

Tardy Procedure Come in silently Fill out tardy clipboard Sit down silently Start participating in class (ex. Taking notes, etc.) {Same procedure for bathroom passes} Which should never be needed

Assignment Expectations Cleanliness/Organization Expectations There should be no smudge marks or frayed edges on your paper (Assignments in this condition will earn a zero) Follow the Assignment format (see next slide) Work Expectation For full credit on assignments every problem needs to be copied onto your own paper, work needs to be shown, and an answer boxed (correctness is not part of the grade, but effort, legibility, cleanliness, organization and format are) If I can t read your work, it earns a zero Assignments are checked everyday and collected every Friday

Assignment Format It s not always possible to do Assignments this way (sometimes problems need more space) when that happens I ll let you know when it s okay to do Assignments with only one column.

Material Procedures The person at the end of each row (the same one who ends up with all the papers when we hand things in) will be in charge gathering materials for the whole row Let s Review and practice! Who gathers materials? How are they distributed How are they collected?

FCAT Scores The FCAT is not apart of your grade in this class The FCAT does not affect your ability to pass the eighth grade

End of Course Exam Your EOC Score is 30% of your final grade Your grades in this class are a part of your GPA Your GPA can affect what colleges will/won t consider accepting you

Grading Policy- What s it Worth? Class Work- 10% Assignments- 15% Quizzes- 25% Tests/Projects- 50% NO EXTRA CREDIT! No Late Work- unless due to absence

Grading Policy- Classwork & Assignments Class work is based on having a pencil/pen, paper, completing the daily bell ringer, being active in group work, having head off of the desk and taking notes each day No late assignments will be accepted (unless absent- in which case you have two days for every one day absent) If you know you ll miss a Friday schedule to take the quiz/test or turn in assignments early NO EXTRA CREDIT!

Grading Policy- Makeup's & Retakes No Quiz Makeup's or Retakes Test makeup- You must schedule a time to makeup the test. For each day you are absent you have two days to complete all makeup work It is your job to keep up with this You only get one test retake per test. You must schedule it for after school. You must re-work all of the questions you missed on the original test correctly before you can do the retake. You ll also need to meet with me for a help session before or after school, and ALL of your homework for the chapter must have been turned in! NO EXTRA CREDIT!

Weekly Schedule Monday- Thursday Assignments will be assigned, and checked for Classwork grades Friday Assignments will be collected for a grade and the quiz or test will be administered When we have project presentations this schedule may change
