Day Thursday, September 13 Next Thursday, children are welcome to wear a yellow wrist band or ribbon to celebrate R U OK! Day. On this day, students will be doing activities to highlight the importance of making sure that we are all OK. Catholic Charities Day will also be conducted on this day. Each class will be in charge of a stall to raise money for local causes. As has been the case in previous years, students are invited to bring along a few dollars to purchase some treats or have a go at some games of skill. Classes requiring donations for their stall would have received a note from their class teacher. There is further information on page 2. MUSIC FESTIVAL Good luck to Mrs Lainio and the members of our school choir. They will be performing with hundreds of other catholic school students as part of the Catholic Schools Music Festival at the Entertainment Centre next week. FATHERS DAY BREAKFAST Another wonderful gathering for breakfast last Thursday to celebrate Fathers Day. It was great to see so many dads and grand dads able to make it. A big thank you to the staff who organised, cooked and served the breakfast. It was another sensational community event. SPORTS DAY Friday, September 28 The Sports Day is at Santos Stadium, Mile End. It will commence at 10:00am & conclude at approximately 2:00pm. Students will be bussed to the venue and will be bussed back to school or collected from the event by their parents/caregivers. Students can wear their normal sports uniform or they can wear a plain t-shirt in their house colours. Page 2 Term 3 Week 7 6 September 2018 RE News Sacramental Program If your child is in Year 2 and is listed as a Catholic on our records, then you will receive a letter of enrolment for the Reconciliation program run by the Parish. This program will take place in 2019, however Sue Schulz our Parish Associate likes to meet with families before the program starts and she usually meets in term 4 with these families. If your child has missed out in previous years or has been baptised since enrolling at Stella Maris we may have missed sending you a form. Please contact me and I can arrange forms for you. Catholic Charities Every year in September, Catholic Charities fundraising activities take place around South Australia. Catholic schools make a commitment to fundraising and at Stella Maris we will be celebrating Catholic Charities day in conjunction with RUOK day next Thursday, 13 th September. We will begin with Community prayer in the morning and then after Recess at 11.15am stalls will be set up and children are able to participate in games or purchase items for sale at the stalls. Most items cost around 50c or $1. Children are asked to bring coins if possible as we won t have a lot of change and it is a good idea to send the money in a named plastic bag to keep it safe. Catholic Charities supports organisations such as Hutt St Centre, Catherine House, Centacare Family Health services, Catholic Deaf Association, Mercy House of Welcome and a number of others. Families are welcome to attend and enjoy the festivities and help with the stalls. Children s Liturgy Just a reminder Children s Liturgy occurs at 9.15am Mass at Holy Spirit Church every week. Children leave the Mass during the readings and Homily with a group leader. The children learn about the Gospel for the day in a child friendly environment and usually participate in an activity centred on that Gospel. Children then process back into the church for the rest of Mass at the Offertory Procession. The Love of Christ, welcomed with an open heart, changes us, transforms us and makes us able to love. KidsMatter Kids Matter news week 7 Next week we are focusing on RUOK day; a day when everyone is encouraged to start a conversation with their friends, family members and colleagues to really check in on their mental health. Did you know that just like our physical health, everyone s mental health is on a continuum, depending on their life situations? Sometimes prolonged feelings of sadness can lead to mental illness, but with appropriate therapies this can be turned around. We can encourage others to seek help!
