Higher Education Bursary Application Form Guidance What is the Higher Education Bursary? For 2018-19 The South Thames Colleges Group is offering Higher Education Bursaries to first year students from the four categories: Internal Progression Bursary: to support students progressing from any of the Colleges within the South Thames Colleges Group(STCG) Level 3 or Access courses to one of STCG s full time Higher Education programme, starting in September 2018. This bursary of 2500 is paid half as a partial fee discount on first year fees, and the other half as a cash bursary also in the first year. School Leaver Progression Bursary: to support students from non-selective state Schools with the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames Colleges, the London Boroughs of Wandsworth, Sutton and Merton, the adjoining London Borough of Richmond upon Thames Colleges and Elmbridge Borough Council to one of South Thames Colleges Group's Higher Education Group s full time Higher Education programme, starting in September 2018. Creative Industries Bursary: to support students joining on a full or part time Higher Education course in creative Industries subjects within the South Thames Colleges Group. For full time students, this bursary is 2500, paid half as a partial fee discount on first year fees, and the other half as a cash bursary also in the first year. For part time students, this Bursary is 1250, paid half as a fee discount and half as a cash bursary. Part Time Student Progression Bursary: to support students intending to study on a part time Higher Education programme within the South Thames Colleges Group for the first time. This bursary of 1250 is paid as a fee discount on first year fees Am I eligible to apply for a Higher Education Bursary? By this we mean that neither parent holds a degree level qualification or Higher National Diploma (HND) or the applicant is a mature and independent student (over 21 years of age on 1st September 2018) or is under 21 and living independently (e.g. is a Care Leaver) This will not be available to South Thames Colleges Group progressing students
To be eligible for the Part Time Student Progression Bursary you must: Hold a firm offer to study on a part time course in a subject offered by the School of Creative Industries within the South Thames Colleges Group, starting in September 2018 Be eligible to receive student finance - the maintenance loan and grant and tuition fee loan for UK Have a household income assessed by Student Finance England (or equivalent) of 25,000 or less. Have not studied at university level previously Be a mature student- over 21 years of age on 1 September 2018 Please note that these are limited funds; students must meet the eligibility criteria and submission of an application does not guarantee funding. How do I apply for support through the Higher Education Progression Bursary? 1. Complete this application form, answering all questions in full 2. Include in your personal statement why you ve chosen your course, career aspirations and why STG should invest in you 3. Provide evidence of meeting the eligibility criteria (photocopies only) 4. Return your completed application and evidence to the Student Support Services Team in G75. What Happens Next? The closing date for applications is 19 October 2018. Applications will be assessed and a decision will be made by 31 October 2018. We will then write to let you know the results, and should you be successful, details of the award.. Can I appeal against the College s decision? You do have the right to appeal. If you wish to appeal please refer the College appeals process, available on the College website, or contact the Student Support Services Team. How will I be paid?
