Week 1 Term 1 2018 From the Principal Welcome Back!!! Dear Parents, Grandparents, Carers and Friends, Welcome to the new school year! My name is Colette Williams and I m your new Principal. I would like to extend an enormous thank you to all of the parents, children and staff who have already made me feel so very welcome at SMB. As a result of my teaching and leadership experience, I feel confident in being able to lead this school to develop a collaborative learning culture based on inquiry learning and an inclusive curriculum reflective of the needs, spirits and values of our community. I have an open door policy therefore, please feel free to pop in to the office at any stage to share in your child s learning journey. The students at St Mary s are my number one priority and I eagerly look forward to working closely with you all to ensure each child reaches their maximum potential this year. The staff at SMB are a highly skilled and dedicated group of people who will ensure your child receives the highest quality education. We all share the collective goal; for SMB to be a place where children come to learn and have fun!!! We are all looking forward to many exciting adventures in 2018!!! I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Mrs Krystal Land who will be teaching Prep and Mrs Belinda Farley who is our new Year 3/4 teacher. We also welcome Mrs Rhonda Davy to our team who will be working as our Students with Disability School Officer. Judy Scherrenberg has been appointed our new Guidance Officer for 2018 and Miss Monique Sibson will be undertaking her Practicum with Mrs Belinda Farley (Year 3/4) for Week 1 and 2 of this term. On Wednesday 31st January, we will be hosting our Parent Information Sessions. During this session, the classroom teacher will share with you general information about the class, what the students are learning this term and any important upcoming events. If you are unable to attend the Information Session, we will send home the information that was presented. Healthy Lunch Boxes: We would like to encourage all children to come to school each day with a healthy lunch box. Thank you so much RTM Engineering for the wonderful revamp of our school fire engine. It looks amazing and we all love it!

Today the Prep students had the pleasure of meeting Mr Corporal & Mr Hedges from the Townsville Army Unit. The Preppies asked the army officers to sit on the wobbly chairs in the classroom to see if they could trick them, but our visitors caught on pretty quick to the trick and sat very carefully on the chairs. The Preppies had many questions for our visitors e.g Where do you live when away from home? and Do you have sniffer cats as well as dogs?. This question our visitors thought was very funny, but a good question! Today has been very busy day in the class making Anzac Biscuits and making Flags to celebrate Australia Day.
