Thursday March 11 Take content reading quiz on chapter 20 and skill activity. All answers on loose leaf. Finish with mental map of the region (ten physical and 10 human features). Complete current event over Spring Break- must be a story from SW Asia. Tuesday March 9 Go over Reading notes from chapter 20 in the workbook. How do people adapt to life in an arid region? Tuesday Feb. 23 rd Complete film on Human Features of Africa Video- write paragraph, draw map. Friday Feb. 19 th Complete regional introduction of Africa: take map quiz, create mental map, describe region with words and images. By the end of class, the student will produce a written paragraph of the physical features of Africa along with a map to support it. Secondly, there will be a paragraph of the Human features along with a map to support it. Next, we will begin Chapter 20 on Tuesday Feb. 23.

Wednesday Feb. 17 Read and Review description of Africa s human and physical features: read African Region Introduction in textbook. Connect to film of both features using outline format. A Written description using short writing rubric for physical and human features of Africa is due at end of class. Friday 2/12 We will continue to explore Africa s political and physical features in our mapping labs, completing challenges 1, 2, and 3. The student will also make a mental map of Africa, view a film on political and physical features. They will be assessed on these features next Wednesday in class. Wednesday 2/10 We went to the computer lab to research and write a story about a current event from our African country. We used the nytimes. com website for the researched and typed our responses. This current event follows the same written form of a current event we have been using all year. Now the student is to be typing this current event. Monday February 8, 2010

We started Africa Mapping Lab. Completing challenges one and two in our workbooks. This will help us identify and locate the physical and human features of this foreign region. Student also completed a mental map of Africa to provide a benchmark of current spatial knowledge and will be used in measuring growth during the unit. They finished class by exploring one specific country in Africa and how it compares to our country. This comparison was assigned for homework and is due on Wednesday Feb. 10.
