Overstreet Introduction In the present era of tech-savvy readers the word Library has changed in meaning and scope. From being sprawling buildings stacked with books, the present libraries have shrunk in size and expanded in the store-house of knowledge stored in them. From books we have moved to e-books, from libraries to on-line libraries. Accessing books, journals, magazines, articles from libraries across the globe is now very much possible and even convenient and quick. Trends and developments in library & information science has brought wonderful opportunities to the seekers of knowledge but it has also brought several challenges for the disseminators of this knowledge. To understand the challenges and opportunities of the digital era, BIMTECH in association with SAARC Documention Center, is organizing "SAARC Conference for Library & Information Professionals". Objectives To bring together LIS professionals from SAARC countries to deliberate on trends and developments in library & information science. To discuss capacity building in libraries with respect to the new technological information avenues available in the present era. About SAARC Documentation Centre SAARC Documentation Centre, established in the year 1994, is one of the Regional Centre of SAARC. It acts as an effective information system for the SAARC member states that enables exchange of information in the areas of biological, physical, chemical, engineering and life sciences as well as in developmental matters. SAARC Documentation system comprises a central facilities i.e. SDC and its sub-units in all the member states i.e. National Focal Points, which act as the repositories of the centre. SDC acts as a repository of documents/reports produced in the region and on the region in scientific, technical, economical, industry-related and developmental matters. Publications of the SDC include the Directory of Research and Industrial Institutions in the SAARC Region and Select Bibliography on Alternative Systems of Medicine in the SAARC Region. Human resource development is an important activity of SDC. It conducts short term and attachment training programmes in information technology applications for library / documentation / information professionals in the Member States. The Centre also offers information services for research scholors in the Member States. About Host Institute The (BIMTECH) was established in 1988 under the aegis of the Birla Academy of Art and Culture. The Institute is supported by B.K. Birla group of companies. Dr. (Smt.) Sarala Birla, Chairperson of Birla Academy and Syt. B K Birla, Chairperson of B K Birla Group of companies are the founders of the business school. Under the dynamic leadership of Dr. H. Chaturvedi, Director, it has progressed from a moderate start to the 7th rank in India. Among the innovative steps initiated by BIMTECH are the setting up 10 village libraries in and around the BIMTECH Campus and the setting up a library to prisoners at Dasna Jail.
Call for Papers Original contributions based on practice/theory/research related to the theme are invited for presentation. All papers will go through a process of review and accepted papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings. All papers must be original contributions and should be submitted through email only. A panel of experts will review each of the contributed papers. Authors should use Times New Roman with 12 points font in MS Word format with double space and should not exceed 5000 words. The format and the references of the paper should be according to the guidelines mentioned on the conference website: http://www.bimtech.ac.in Correspondence will be made with the principal author and therefore the name, full address, email, fax, and phone numbers of the principal author should be clearly indicated.
