Virginia State Standards correlated to Merit Software Mechanics- Grammar Programs Adopted in November 2002 by the state Board of Education, the Standards of Learning set reasonable targets and expectations for what teachers need to teach and students need to learn. The standards are not intended to encompass the entire curriculum for a given grade level or course or to prescribe how the content should be taught; the standards are to be incorporated into a broader, locally designed curriculum. Teachers are encouraged to go beyond the standards and select instructional strategies and assessment methods appropriate for their students. Merit s Mechanics-Grammar programs address the following Virginia Standards: Grade 3 pg. 1-2 Grade 4 pg. 2-3 Grade 5 pg. 3-5 Grade 6 pg. 5 Grade 7 pg. 5-6 Grade 8 pg. 6 Grade 9 pg. 6-7 Grade 10 pg. 7 Grade 11 pg. 7 Grades 3 3.2 The student will present brief oral reports. e) Use grammatically correct language and specific vocabulary to communicate ideas. a) Use complete and varied sentences. b) Use the word I in compound subjects. c) Use past and present verb tense., Virginia Language Arts Word Mechanics - Grammar 1
