2015 China International Mathematics Competition (CIMC 2015) Changchun 27 th July ~ 1 st August 2015 1. IMC 2015 Objectives 1. To organize an international mathematics competition for key stage II (upper primary education) and key stage III (lower secondary education) students; 2. To motivate teachers and students to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics with emphasis on developing the higher order thinking skills; 3. To establish cooperation with networks for the improvement of mathematics at the international level; 4. To provide students from participating countries with opportunities to exchange mathematics knowledge and practice and cultural experiences; 5. To upgrade mathematics curriculum in school to be at par with the international standards. 2. Divisions of Competition IMC 2015 is composed of 2 divisions: 1. Key Stage II Division (Upper Primary Education) 2. Key Stage III Division (Lower Secondary Education) 3. Qualifications of Participants Participants of each division must meet the following conditions: 1. Key Stage II: (a) Students must not be enrolled in secondary schools or in any equivalent institutions; and (b) Students must have been born on or after 1 August 2001. 2. Key Stage III: Students must have not been enrolled in upper secondary education or in any of equivalent institutions; and Students must have not been born on or after 1 August 1998. 4. Participation and Application Participation in the competition is by invitation. Any invited city or country is entitled to send up to 2 teams to participate in each division. Each team may comprise a maximum of 6 members: a team leader, a deputy leader, and 4 students, except for countries: Bulgaria, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macau, Nepal, Philippines, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand, whose status as former hosts of any activities under the supervision of IMC Executive Board allowing them to send four teams to participate in each division.

5. Types of Contest There will be two kinds of contests in each division namely, individual and team contests. All participants must participate in both kinds of contests and other related activities, as scheduled. Key Stage II Key Stage III Individual TEAM Questions : 15 Questions : 10 Time:90 minutes Time:60 minutes Total Marks : 150 Total Marks : 400 Individual Part One : 12 Questions short answer (5 points each) Part Two: 3 Questions complete solution is needed (20 points each) Time:120 minutes TEAM Questions : 10 Time:60 minutes Total Marks : 120 Total Marks : 400 More Information about TEAM CONTEST The four-team members are given 10 minutes to discuss and distribute among themselves the first 8 questions. Each student must attempt to solve at least one problem. Each member has 35 minutes to write independently the solutions of his/her allotted problem with no further discussion or exchange of problems. The four-team members are allowed to solve together for 15 minutes the last 2 problems. 6. Competition papers The participating country must send ten proposed problems, using Word files written in English, for the Key Stage II contest and the Key Stage III contest; that is, five for the individual contest and another five for the team contest on or before 15 June 2015 to allow the CIMC Academic Committee to do the consideration and preparation of competition papers. The team leaders must avoid using the exact proposed problems they submit to the organizers for training their contestants. The contest papers may be translated into one s native language on 28 July 2015, after the opening ceremony. 7. CIMC 2015 Technical Committee CIMC 2015 Committee comprises of math experts from China and members of IMC Executive Board.

8. Awards and Prizes Individual Award: gold, silver, bronze medals and merit certificates. Approximately two-thirds of the contestants will receive Individual Awards, in the form of Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals as well as merit certificates, approximately in the ratio, 1 : 2 : 3 : 4. Team Award: Champion, 1 st, 2 nd runner-up trophies and honorable mention. In the team contest, the total score of all contestants in each team is considered the team score. The teams are first ranked by their total scores. Ties are broken according to the scores of team contest problems, starting with the most difficult ones. Prizes will be given to one Champion, two 1 st runners-up and three 2 nd runners-up of different groups. Grouping will be done through drawing of lots. Group Award: Champion, 1 st and 2 nd runner-up trophies The highest score of the three contestants in each team for Individual Contest will be summed up. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams with the highest scores of each group in the form of one Champion, two 1 st runners-up and three 2 nd runners-up. In case of a tie, the team whose 4th contestant scores with higher marks in the Individual Contest wins. Overall Award: Grand Champion, 1 st and 2 nd runner-up trophies The Overall Prize is awarded to the team that obtains the highest score computed as follows: the sum of the four-team members score in the Individual Contest and of the team s score in the Team Contest. The maximum score is 4 150+400=1000 (for EMIC) and 4 120+400=880 (for IWYMIC). Grand Champion, 1 st and 2 nd runners-up will be awarded. Certificate: Every participant will receive a CIMC 2015 certificate. 9. Period of Application and Procedure Each participating city or country has to apply for its participation. It should specify the number of participating teams for each division to the organizer through these e-mails (ccmp@seed.net.tw, jdfz2006@sina.com and 444246273@qq.com, simon_l_chua@yahoo.com). A notice of confirmation must be sent on or before 30 March 2015. A filled-up application form must be submitted via e-mail to the organizer on or before 30 May 2015. Each participating team must inform the organizer about its arrival and departure schedules at Longjia International Airport (CGQ) on or before 15 June 2015.

10. Expenses The organizer will take charge of all official expenses of the teams of each invited city or country including accommodations, meals, and sightseeing during the official period of the competition in Changchun City, China (27 July -1 August 2015). Observers, parents and other accompanying persons have to pay US$650 for the accommodation, meals, transportation, and sightseeing during the period of official competition. The student who wants to stay hotel with their parents has to pay extra 200 dollars. Each participating team is responsible for the travelling expenses from their homeland to Longjia International Airport (CGQ), including payment of visa fees and other expenses for their entry to China. Any team arriving in Changchun from any other place in China must be responsible for their transportation expenses. However, shuttle bus from Changchun Airport to the contest venue is free. 11. Medical Care for Participants The organizer will provide accident insurance for all participants during the official period of the competition. The insurance will cover accidents leading to death or permanent disability of the body; therefore, all participants are advised to arrange medical insurance by themselves. 15. Additional Information Each participating country should do the following: Inform the organizer in advance of any specified dietary requirements or restrictions; Prepare at most 5 minutes cultural performance for the cultural night; (Prepare gift for exchange of souvenir items) Complete visa procedures before arriving in China. Check Chinese Immigration Service website the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (http://cs.mfa.gov.cn/wgrlh/lhqz/lhqzjjs/) to prevent possible problems. Homestay program is one activity where participants will be invited to stay with the selected students of the High School Attached to Jilin University. The homestay program will start on 29 th July to early morning of 1 st August, before departure. After 8 years, the participants of 2007 IMC are welcome to make a sentimental journey to Changchun again. They are invited to participate in the opening and closing programs and they may, if they wish to, perform in the cultural night. The CIMC 2015 organizer will arrange a special tour for them. Each delegate have to pay US$650 for the accommodation, meals, transportation, and sightseeing during the period of official competition.
