Moyston Primary School NEWSLETTER No. 188 16th June 2016 Moyston Primary School aims to develop in our students a purpose of belonging and an understanding of the importance of taking responsibility for their own learning. This is to take place in a caring learning environment that engages students to work towards achieving their personal best in an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation, and assisting them to become valued members of the community. NEW UNIFORM! Our students are very happy with our new Moyston PS polo shirts! We are moving away from red and navy as our school colours and changing to red and black. FUNDRAISING Our fundraising committee and school parents have had a busy few weeks! Our June Community Dinner was held on 3rd June. There was a great turn out of Moyston locals for our Chicken Parma night. Thank you to Libby and Lydia for co-ordinating this dinner and to all of the parents helpers who assisted with the preparation and running of the evening. This dinner made a profit of $950! Over the long weekend our school also hosted a dinner for the Endurance Horse riders at the Moyston Pavilion on Sunday night. The very cold and tired horse riders were grateful for a hot dinner after riding all day and night. Thankyou to our students and parents for baking sweets for the dessert platters. Thank you to all of our helpers on the night. Approximate profit from this dinner was $665!

Good morning greeting with Tanith during Chinese. SCHOOL GARDEN Our Senior students spent some time recently in our school garden weeding and cleaning up. The garden has been thriving this year. 90% of the vegetable served at our June Community Meal dinner came from our school garden. A big thank you to all of the parent helpers who have helped make the garden such a success this year.

Happy 3rd Birthday to Grip! Anthony s dog Grip is a regular visitor to the school. The students love having him around in and out of the classroom. He has a very positive influence on some of our students. Last week they helped him celebrate his 3rd birthday! VSCC BMX DATES Friday 5 August WYNDHAM Friday 19th August KNOX Friday 16th September (Last day of term 3) PORTLAND Friday 14th October BENDIGO Once again, we will be entering the VSCC in the BMX division. After winning the overall aggregate for the Champion School for the last 3 years, we are once again looking forward to defending this title. This is not a compulsory activity. School will run as normal for those students not wishing to compete in the BMX events. Families are most welcome to attend the events to support our school. For students to participate at the racing, a parent or guardian will need to be present due to the nature of this sport.

CLUSTER DAY AT BUANGOR Students had a great time at our recent Cluster Day at Buangor Primary School. The kids had lots of fun playing Minute to Win It games followed by some Hip Hop Dancing.

ART

Our Junior room students have been enjoying a trial period of the Mathseeds online program. ABC Mathseeds teaches kids aged 3-8 the core maths and problem solving skills needed to be successful at school. Well done to Owen and Cody who both received Readings Eggs awards recently. Congratulations to Mark who was our Spelling Champion this week!
