Common minors for Sociology students are Anthropology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Communications, Women s Studies, Chicano Studies, Latin American and Border Studies, African American Studies, and Religious Studies. Cross-listed courses between minor and Sociology cannot be double counted in both areas; students must enroll in it either for the major or the minor. ----------------------------- Year 3 Fall (15 credits) Foreign language 2301 Any Liberal Arts 3000/4000 course outside major and minor.* ( Name of block of course) * Students must take 18 credits [usually 6 courses] in the College of Liberal Arts outside their major and minor. The courses must be 3000-4000 level. At least one course and no more than three courses must be in each block: Fine and Performing Arts, Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences. In other words, the Blocks of the courses you have taken must follow these patterns: 2-2-2 or 3-2-1. The list of departments in Blocks are: Fine Arts: Arts, Music, Theatre, Dance, and designated courses in Studies programs. Humanities: English, History, Languages and Linguistics, Philosophy, Western Cultural Heritage, and designated courses in Studies programs. Social and Behavioral Sciences: Anthropology, Communications, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, and designated courses in Studies programs. Courses cross-listed with your major and minor do not count for this requirement. --------------------------------- Year 3 Spring (15 credits)

----------------------------------------- Your electives in Anthropology must fulfill the following requirements. These are not additional courses; they are simply distribution requirements that govern some of the electives you take: Two electives from this list (archaeology and biological anthropology): ANTH 3303, 3304, 3309, 3310, 3340, 3347, 3359, 3360, 3380, 3647, 4312, 4313, 4365, or any other elective (e.g., Special Topics) approved for this purpose by the department (you must get a memo from the department chair). If you think a course not on this list should count as archeology, see the department chair. Two electives from this list (cultural anthropology): ANTH 3303, 3306, 3309, 3311, 3314, 3315, 3319, 3320, 3321, 3325, 3326, 3330, 3358, 3361, 4304, 4306, 4308, 4346, or any other elective (e.g., Special Topics) approved for this purpose by the department (you must get a memo from the department chair). If you think a course not on this list should count as cultural anthropology, see the department chair. One course cannot count for both lists. ------ You may use some of your electives to get a Certificate in addition to your BA, which is useful for your resume when seeking employment. These courses may be counted in the electives, above, or you may take them as extra courses. Certificates are not required. Certificate in Applied Cultural Anthropology Major or Minor in Anthropology ANTH 3311 Applied Cultural Anthropology ANTH 3358 Ethnographic Methods. ANTH 4303 Internship in Anthropology taken twice, amounting to six credits. Or three credits of internship plus one course from ANTH 3303, 3315, or 3380. Total: 12 credits as part of major or minor. Certificate in Cultural Heritage Management Major or Minor in Anthropology ANTH 3380 Cultural and Environmental Resource Management ANTH 3647 Archeological Field Studies. (ANTH 4303, Internship in Anthropology, may be substituted for this requirement with permission of the department, in cases where the work involves Cultural Resource Management. The internship may be taken for two semesters [six credits] or the student may take three internship credits and add an additional three credits from ANTH 3358, 3359, or 3360, with no double counting allowed.)
