Attendance Classes begin at 7:45 a.m. Tardies are arrivals after 7:45 a.m. Attendance is taken at 9:00 a.m. All absences will be unexcused unless a written note is sent within 3 days. Dismissal is at 2:50 p.m. Please send a note if your child will need to leave early. The latest leave-early time is 2:15 p.m. Attendance will be reflected on report cards.

Dismissal If a change in dismissal occurs, please call the office and send a written note in the red folder. Your child cannot let us know of a change. We will send them to their regular dismissal spot. Discuss with your child the dismissal procedure. We highly encourage the carpool lane for safety.
First Class Breakfast Students have a choice. Parents need to discuss with their children what they can and cannot eat. Parents can opt out of breakfast for their child. Breakfast is over at 8:00.
Lunch If you come to eat lunch with your child, please eat outside. If your child has dietary restrictions, please make sure they know what the restrictions are so they do not accidentally chose the wrong thing in the lunch line. You can load lunch money on your child s lunch card by going through the HISD website on the parent portal.

Behavior Chart Conduct marks will be recorded in the red folder. Red folders will go home everyday. Please check behavior chart and sign the behavior sheet daily. Student will miss 5 minutes of recess if red folder is not signed. Weekly grade
What happens when rules are broken? 1. In most cases, warnings are given first. 2. A conduct cut is given and student will sit out 5 minutes during recess. 3. Additional conduct marks will be given if infraction continues. 4. Conference with parents. 5. Visit to the office.
Hallway/Restroom/Cafeteri a Behavior Hallway Restroom Cafeteria Silent at all times. Walking, not running. Silent at all times. Restroom etiquette (flushing, washing hands, picking up paper) Line up quietly. Use soft inside voices. Need permission to leave the table. Check to see that you have everything before sitting down. Help keep our cafeteria clean.
Curriculum All classes, regardless of whether they are regular, Vanguard or ESL, use the same curriculum. The difference is in the pacing and rigor. All first grade teachers plan their lessons together. The same concept is taught in each class.

Tests Content will be in the weekly newsletters. Tests will be sent home on the following Wednesday in the RED communication folder. Please sign and return any paper with a failing grade. Please review them with your child and have them correct any mistakes.
Reteach and Retest Students will be given one opportunity to retest for grades below 70. Students will retest during study hall which takes place during recess. Tests will be averaged together. You will only see the averaged score on gradespeed. Spelling, sentence dictation, reading comprehension, cumulative and Timed Math facts tests will not be retested.

Homework Reinforcement of concepts learned in class. Reading/Language Arts homework will be assigned on Monday in the Green folder. Return on Friday. Homework completion will be reflected on report cards. Five or more missing assignments will result in an N. Math homework goes home daily in the red folder Make it a top priority, provide necessary supplies, set up a daily homework time, and provide praise and support.
Other Homework Info Practice math facts every night for at least 10 minutes. Please use the flash cards purchased at the beginning of school. Practice spelling on the spelling sheets. Children should read nightly and document on reading log.
Progress Reports & Report Cards Progress Reports will be sent the 5 th week of each grading period. Remember to check Gradespeed often. This will let you know how your child is doing at any given time. Report Cards will be sent on Oct. 30th, Jan. 8 th, March 24 th and May 25th.

Early Dismissal Days Early dismissal days are September 22th, October 28 th, November 18th, January 27 th, and February 24 th. Students will be dismissed at 12:20. Lunch will be one hour and ten minutes earlier than normal. These will be for professional development and parent-teacher conferencing.
Dress Code SOLID red, navy, or white COLLARED shirts. Bush t-shirts Khaki or navy bottoms SOLID red, navy, or white jackets or sweaters. NO designs or logos Lydian apparel Names should be written in every item. Please do not just write initials. Leggings and undershirts must be red, white or navy. Leggings are not pants and can only be worn under a skirt or dress. Please wear tennis shoes everyday.
Volunteering All volunteers must be approved! Please return forms as soon as possible. Many different opportunities are available. Please sign up for room mom! THANKS for all you do!!!
Field Trips 2 field trips scheduled for the year (one per semester). Only 2 chaperones per class and they must ride the bus. No siblings allowed. E or S average conduct grade during that 9 week period necessary to participate.
Birthdays Cookies and donuts are preferred. Meet your child in the cafeteria, not at the classroom. NO sharing with other classes. There are students with food allergies. All invitations to non-school functions must be mailed through the U.S. Postal Service. Invitations cannot be distributed at school. No treat bags or candy may be passed out. We will lose one month of federal funding.
