TEACHER ADVISEMENTS Core & foreign language teachers made advisements for next year based on current work ethic, attendance and academic discipline demonstrated this school year. Parents will be able to access teacher advisements in the 4 Year Plan. These advisements are a guide; however, parent and student make the final decision of course choice.

What level of courses should your student take? What are the choices? Level, Honors, Pre-AP, Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Credit (DC) What is the teacher s advisement? What are your student s past and current grades? How much time will be required for course success? How much time is your student willing/able to devote to course success?

More factors to consider in selecting courses How much time will your student be spending on other things? (school activities, church, clubs, etc.) Why is your student choosing this particular level of course? How many Pre-AP or AP classes are in your student s schedule? How does your student manage time, organize work, and meet deadlines?

Pre-AP and AP, what does that mean? Pre-AP courses help prepare students for the AP courses later. These courses are more rigorous than a level course. AP courses are college level courses. The students can take the AP exam in May and earn college credit depending on their score and what the college accepts..

HOW MUCH HOMEWORK?? Level Classes: 30 45 minutes per class each night the class meets Honors /PAP Classes: Approximately 60 minutes each night the class meets Dual Credit & Advanced Placement Classes: 90-120 minutes per class each night. Be ready for a faster pace, more reading, writing, and research-based assignments. Remember these are college level classes! PLAN CAREFULLY AND MAKE GOOD CHOICES!

Year One of their 4 year plan is their course selections for next year. (February 7th through February18th)

Deadline for Course Request Changes Your student s choices are considered a year-long commitment as our master schedule is built on the courses they have chosen prior to April 27 th. If a student is experiencing difficulty in a Pre-AP class we do not drop to level, the student should attend tutorials and also take advantage of re-test options. A teacher-parentstudent meeting may also be scheduled to discuss ways your student can be successful. Any changes made to a student s schedule could impact the entire schedule and result in other unexpected teacher or class changes.

Schedule Changes Final Course Requests will be distributed at Freshman Orientation. This is not their schedule and may be changed prior to the first day of school due to the leveling of classes and moving classes. Requested schedule changes will only be made under the following circumstances: A student is enrolled in a course they have not had the prerequisite for A student is enrolled in a course they have already earned the credit for A student would like to move up to Honors, Pre-AP or AP (given a seat is available)

4 Year Plan Tips If a course is grayed out that means it is somewhere else in the four year plan and must be removed to be added in another year and/or That course can not be taken that school year If your student started their High School math sequence in Junior High they will find their fifth or sixth Math course under STEM Students MUST put in alternates. There are times when courses are offered and the same time and we can not schedule a course. If no alternates are entered, the counselor will have to select a course for them

Double Blocked Courses Add these courses in the PE dropdown. NOT the Athletics dropdown. If you are in a double blocked course your total course count should be 7. If you are not in a double blocked course your total course count should be 8. Private PE Complete the Off Campus Physical Education online application between March 19 th and May 1 st. Vendors must be approved and on the list. Level I students with 15 or more hours a week will have a release period. They will have late arrival or early release. Level II students with 5 to 14 hours a week will be awarded the credit at the end of the school year. There is no release period and it is not in the student s schedule.

1. It is very important to put in alternates below the course selections in Student Access. Alternates are only used when there is a class conflict. 2. Students cannot repeat a class in which they have earned credit for. 3. Make sure your student has selected the correct math class. 4. If your student is currently taking Spanish 1 in 8 th grade, make sure they select Spanish 2 (unless you are changing languages). If they change languages they have to take 2 years of the SAME language. 5. Student choices are considered a year-long commitment. No changes will be made after the final deadline of April 27, 2018.

DEADLINES Online Registration will be closed on February 16th. 1st Verification Sheet will be sent home on March 29th. If a change is needed, students will complete a Course Selection Change Form in the Counseling Center or on TWHS Counselor Website.
