Edinburgh College Character... through Nurture, Learning and Service T2 Week 1, April 18, 2018 Year 9 Students are Thriving at Survivor Camp We have paddled straight into Term 2 and our Year 9 s are surviving! Appropriately challenged for character development, each team has been working together to build a bridge and get up on and over it, to build a raft & paddle together and to get through traffic. I m looking forward to judging the My Bush Kitchen Rules competition on Thursday evening. We will return to school on Friday afternoon. The Ode They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. Lest We Forget. Next Wednesday at 5.45am, you are invited to attend the Lilydale Dawn Service where our Edinburgh Captains will lay a wreath. Students who attend are asked to wear full winter uniform. - Mrs Ferry Welcome New Students Mrs Pascoe was delighted to introduce Isabella and Aiden to the whole school in Assembly this week. Isabella, Prep and Aiden, Year 1 are both very happy to be at school with their big sister, Jazmyn, who joined Year 4 at the start of the year. Visit to ScienceWorks In the last week of Term 1, Year 4 went on an excursion to Science- Works to enhance their studies on Forces. They really enjoyed working as engineers to create their own rollercoaster ride using different sized marbles, a noodle track and masking tape. It was challenging to design a loop that the marble could travel through successfully. They also learnt about the forces that are required for a rocket to travel into space and what it's like for astronauts to live where there is no gravity. Students also had a lot of fun at the other interactive exhibits. - Mrs Bradley Edinburgh Students Visit Canberra Year 6 students are currently enjoying an education tour of the national capital. Students are participating in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. Year 6 students are enjoying meeting new friends from Heritage and Nunawading Christian Colleges. They know it is a privilege to be on the tour and they know it is an honour to be a proud Australian. Pastor Ryan in Canberra School camps are a big part of Edinburgh College s culture and play a very important part in our students development and journeys. This is the first of a number of school camps I will be attending over the next few weeks. Being away with the students gives me the opportunity to get to know them on a new level. The Canberra trip focuses on developing a deeper appreciation of our country as we visit important sites pertaining to our shared heritage. Yesterday, the importance of mateship was very evident through our visit to the Australian War Memorial. This mateship was symbolised beautifully as our captains from the three schools joined together to present a wreath at the evening service. Canteen is Open Primary students may order from the canteen on Tuesdays and Thursdays and is open to Secondary students every day. Pictured: Year 5 students doing the lunch order run for the Primary campus. Just like our kids, Jesus made a point of doing life with us and in so doing thought we were worth calling mate. Take a page out of His book and get to know someone new. edinburghcollege.vic.edu.au T: 9728 2211 A member of Adventist Schools Australia
