LONG RANGE PLANNING What happens AFTER GRADUATION? START THINKING
UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE ENGLISH 12 (usually min 70% or ) + 3 Grade 12 courses (check on those that are acceptable to the school & the program you wish to enter) Some programs have grade 11 course requirements as well. ~Consider a University Transfer Program via College~ DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!

What about a 2nd LANGUAGE? Is it required? For graduation? NO For trades or vocational programs? NO For university entrance?... Maybe Is it a good idea?... Yes It depends on if you go straight to university from high school, the program you choose, & the university/college you attend.

Consider EXTERNAL CREDITS A student can earn extra school credits for participation in some specific programs: Driver Training Course Girl Guides / Cadets Provincial & National level sport teams NLS & Bronze Cross (swimming) Royal Conservatory Music levels *Credits are given for SPECIFIC levels of participation as determined by the Ministry of Education. Check with a counsellor!
So... Let s Review In grade 10 you must take; An English 10 A Science 10 A Math 10 A Social Studies 10 A PE 10: You need to choose one of the 3 PE choices PLUS... Choose 3 elective courses (eg. a second language) Please note that this adds up to 8 courses within the building. If you decide to take any external credits you still must have 8 course here at GESS.
What s next? ü Go online to GESS website and review this power point presentation and course selection booklet (go to STUDENTS- course selection) ü Talk with family ü Check post-secondary requirements ü Fill out Course Selection Form-online ü Select your courses carefully for next year ü We will be visiting your class room on Wednesday Feb. 13 or Monday Feb. 18 Day1 periods 1 or 2
